    Getting Older

Well today is my 74th birthday and I somehow just don't feel like it. Yes I have aches and pains, but when I think about my upcoming deer hunt in a couple of weeks, they seem to fade away.......at least for awhile. LOL What makes me feel old is that my son turns 50 next month! I figure I have...

    Which Gun ?

Spent some time at the range this morning shooting 2 different rifles. One is my "old reliable" Ruger M77 in 25-06, the other in my newer elk rifle, a custom commercial Mauser in .300 Wby. Both shoot around 1/2 minute groups, both are topped with Leupold VXlll 4x14 optics. I shoot both really...

    Wolves in Colorado

There was a recent article in our local paper (Cortez Journal, September 11, 2017, "Are Wolves coming back to Colorado?") about a recent presentation by Michael Soule', "a renowned conservation biologist" to the San Juan Citizen's Alliance. He stated that he believes it is inevitable and it...

    SW Colorado Bucks

On our home from town this evening and saw 5 bucks right next to the road about 1/2 mile from our place. Pictures could have been better, but one was a great buck with a drop tine. Funny thing is that they were fighting and one had a big gash on his rt shoulder.

For those who havn't heard, a toxic brew of contaminated mine water overflowed into the Animas River near Silverton. It has gone clear to New Mexico so far. It was caused by EPA workers at an old mine. The river is closed to all water contact, irrigation needs & drinking water until further...

    Ford N9 Tractor

Neighbor just sold his house and is moving. He gave me his N9 and several attachments. Doesn't seem to run well as it overheats. Guess I got a new project. I'm going to start with the radiator and water pump. One of the attachments is a brush hog, should get a lot of use out of it.

    Scouting

Spent a lot of the last 2 days scouting a unit that I have never hunted elk there before. I made a mistake and put the wrong unit choice for my M/L elk choice. I drew it and then realized I had a problem. Luckily it is only 60 miles north of my home place so I can spend some time scouting. This...

    Jack O'Conner's "Lost Classics"

I grew up reading Jack O'Conner in "Outdoor Life" magazine. He is responsible for some of the philosophy I have about hunting and shooting. A few years ago my wife bought me the book "Lost Classics". I ran out of reading material (which I do on a regular basis) and started to reread it again. It...
