    NW Colorado Archery Elk Report

The morning started on 16 Sept with high expectations. I honestly didn't think we would get it done on day one though. We talked about our game plan for the past few weeks and how we would tackle the full moon. My son and I agreed we needed to be roughly 1.7 miles in an hour before light was...

Need some Eastmans Forum positive vibes tonight!

Kid stuck a very respectable muley at dusk. Gonna be a long night! Good shot, solid impact. Went running into the bedding area/heavy timber with a Rage Hyperdermic and half a 5mm carbon arrow in him. For all those that have had to let one set overnight, please say an extra prayer. Really want...

    NW Colorado Report From Camp

Animals are screaming from 0400 to 1000 daily. We got it done day one and put a nice little 4x5 down. Saw one bear so far. Switching gears to muleys in the am. Temps today in the shade at 10,000 were 46 degrees so I'm guessing 65 in the sun. Will post pics and a story when we get to town...

Price per acre of State Trust Lands in Colorado

I'm trying to set up a hunting area for kids 18 and under, first time children hunters 18 and under and Team USA Olympic athletes ( 1st time hunters). I have my eye on a 640 acre plot that currently has a recreation/agricultural lease on it. Question is.....what is the typical price per acre...

Fire Dot Reticle Legal in Colorado?

I'm building a gun for the kids HS grad present. Looking at a VX-6 3-18 x 44 side focus CDS-ZL scope with the fire dot wind plex reticle. I think I'm confusing states and rules and seasons .......but is that legal for Colorado rifle seasons? I'm away at work and cant download the DOW regs...

Last Full Moon Before the Elk Rut..........

For many of us the entire year is spent thinking about September. The Harvest Moon will be here soon. Time to be in the woods with family and arguably some of the best friends you will have in your life. Books could be written (books have been written) on the virtues that hunting can help...

    T. A. G. Game Bags

Looking to get a set of the med bags and the BOMB bags. Where is the best place to purchase? Seems to be a wide range of prices and places with limited advertising on the Internet. Thanks in advance. 15 days till the Colorado archery opener!

    Spotting scope vs. Nocs?

This may sum it up and give perspective. I have some 10x42s that only hang on my neck while hunting. While seriously glassing up high ( like two weeks ago for 5 days) my son and I have a x65 spotter and x50 bins. We swap them back and forth between what we are looking at. Usually he would...

Best phone to spotting scope device

Thanks for all the great info and lessons learned. I relearned a few this past week! Of note the S4 doesn't fit some of the newer larger phones. I went with the S4 only because that's what I could get my hands on. I had to modify the S4 to work with my Samsung galaxy Note 3 due to not...

    NW Colorado Scouting

Lots of green and good forage. Animals are fat. High elk calf survival rate this year. We watched 2 herds of 40-50 elk and each had between 28-36 calves in each herd. Mule deer look very healthy also. Some pics below.

Best phone to spotting scope device

Team, I'd like to contribute with pics from our scouting trips and I see the posted ones of "phones being connected to spotting scopes". I did the initial research and it looks like there is a small number of options. I have a Samsung note 3 (personal phone) and a Iphone 6 ( work phone) that...

    Ideal arrow weight calculation?

So I was taught by an old timer a while ago that 6.6 grains per pound of draw is the optimum weight. That being said pulling 70# that would come out to a 462 grain set up. For reference/comparison I'm shooting a FMJ 322 grn, broadhead 100 grn, nock 12 grn, fletching 18 grn and insert 16 grn...

    Let's SEE EM! Arrow Groups!

50 yard group, target arrows with no contacts. ( had a bet with the kid, he won) Also attached is a great use for the many boxes we seem to accumulate at xmas time! Works well for the broadheads and the cheese wasn't all that bad.

    Fixed vs Mechanical

Soooooo,,,,,,,I've been debating this the past few years and collecting data. I've poured over all the posts on here to include the Eastman's article a few issues ago on the subject. We have been shooting the G5 Montec 125g/100g forever. My reasonings for considering changing is. 1) I feel...
