    Dang Birds!!

Around here the hens are running off to lay mid morning and coming back off about 3:00 pm give or take an hour or so. Some may be just starting to set. I do better on birds around 10 to 4. If you can find a gobbler or 2 that went to roost without hens they will come in first thing sometimes too...

    2021 OR Season

I was able to tag my 3rd Gobbler for the 2021 season. He was a wary old bird, but after a few hours and a couple moves, he finally made a mistake and showed himself. It was a great season with lots of action. Probably the earliest I was able to tag out, especially considering they've upped our...

Leupold Spotting Scope / Eyeware Giveaway!

I'd have to say Deer hunting has always been at the top for me, but I do love all of it for sure!

    Merriams and Rio’s

I think the Merriams have a much more pronounced color line on the tail. The white barring on the primary and secondary feathers is really clear. The Rios have a more cream colored (primary) tail and secondary feather color barring that seems to blend together with less pronounced lines. Not...

    2021 OR Season

Lucked into another nice bird this morning up in the big timber. He has some interesting coloration in his tail fan. I'd call this one a Rio or at least partly.

    2021 OR Season

Thanks and yes Merriams! Some Rio Grandes also in OR. Not sure what causes the multiple beard thing. It seems semi-common around some areas I've hunted though. Maybe genetics? In our particular area the Merriams and Rios seem to be crossed up a bit.

When did you kill your first deer?

I was 12 in 1978 and went hunting in the big timber up in the mountains with my Dad near home here in western OR. I shot a nice forked horn blacktail right at dark in the rain of course :). I have a polaroid pic somewhere that I took for my 4-h scrap book also! I shot him with the model 70 30.06...

    4 wheel drive projects

Brandon, Seeing that pic of the 68 that shows the clutch pedal with the rubber missing and the old E-brake handle sure makes me smile for some reason. Not sure why that one does it, but it just brings back tons of memories riding around in Dads' old GMCs.

    4 wheel drive projects

Do you happen to have pics of the 65 your friends dad has, I'd love to see that. I bet it's pretty cool too! Ultimately a 66 SWB 4x4 with a 454 would be my dream truck. Only reason for the "66" is because that's my birth year :), ya I'm getting older!

    4 wheel drive projects

I have pics somewhere, but unfortunately I don't have very many! I was always going to restore it and never got to it. I sold it to give my son some help with college. I sure wish I had it back now, but I wasn't in a good position financially then. It is getting restored and the guy that bought...

    4 wheel drive projects

It would be great :). We had a 65 4x4 pu and a 62 2wd pu growing up. In high school I had a 65 short box 4x4 that I put a 396 big block in. They are my favorite rigs
