    Monsoons in SW Colorado

Some more pictures of what hit Glenwood Canyon and I-70, these are all right around the Bair Ranch exit 129 on the east end of the canyon. This car is pointed west in the east bound lane. You can see the guardrail in this picture and relate just how much debris is on the freeway

    Monsoons in SW Colorado

Glenwood Canyon is still closed as they remove all the mud and rocks that came down the other day. From the pictures on TV the Bair Ranch exit area took the blunt of it with huge boulders that came down. They have shown a picture of the exit 129 sign that has boulders and mud up at least 4-5...

Preferred cartridge? Grip and grin pic added

I picked up a box of Hornady Whitail 115 grain loads when I first got my 25-06 and their advertised velocity is 3100 fps. They shot extremely well out of mine but I knew that I wanted to drop down in bullet weight and shoot the Barnes 100 grain TTSX out of a reload.

Preferred cartridge? Grip and grin pic added

For me it would be my 25-06 shooting a Barnes 100 grain TTSX at 3200 fps. That is what I used for my coues deer at 420 yards and he just dropped. I keep thinking that I need to load it up a little faster to 3300 fps but I then ask myself why when it does such a good job at 3200.

    Spammer Selling Components

While not on this site I came across this information on another forum and thought that I would pass it along. DO NOT BUY from barrelammodepot dot com The poster said that he came close to being suckered in until the lights came on and he saw it for what it was.

I'm presuming that you are talking about elk in Idaho. But listing the state helps out a lot.

    Monsoons in SW Colorado

For me if I want to go to Glenwood and take the detour it would take about 4 1/2 hours and around 250 or so miles now I I need to go to Grand Junction you can shorten the time by a half hour. I do have a shorter road to the south of me but quite a bit if it is a dirt road and I wouldn't want to...

    Monsoons in SW Colorado

For you folks that are sitting in a very dry area hoping for some rain here are some more pictures of Glenwook Canyon from Thursday night and Friday morning. There were also a number of people that got stuck in the Hanging Lake tunnels. This picture is just to the west of the tunnels. The...

Renting a spotter vs high end binos September Elk

For years I used a compact pair of Pentex 12x25's and had no problems spotting elk at any range that I could tell that they were elk. I then started using some 10x42 Leopold Cascades, and replaced them with a 10x42 EL Swaro's. The only time that I felt that I needed more power was when I was...

Renting a spotter vs high end binos September Elk

I would just stick with what you have. If you don't care about rack size then a bull is a bull, and there is really no reason to pack the exte weight of the spotter. For myself I just depend on my 10x42 binoculars to see if I I want to chase after a animal. Now if I was trophy hunting then I...

    Who else is...

That is why I take my spotter with me. But a few years ago I put in some miles when I was shooting at 250 yards. That hike to the target and back got old real quick.

    4 wheel drive projects

When you are in the salt belt even washing the wheel wells out doesn't help. I have friends up in the north east who have 5 year old trucks that look like they are 30 years old.

What is trophy hunting article... Thoughts?

People have gotten the idea of "trophy hunting" from those of us that head to far away lands and only bring back the "trophy" parts of the animals. They could care less that the meat from the animals that were shot was consumed locally and if possible we would love to bring at least some of...

    Beginner Elk Hunt- Wyoming

What unit did you draw? There are some units that you just have to wait for the snows, no snow=no elk and other units where the elk are there all year long.

    Which One Would You Shoot?

There would be no question, that mule deer would be down even if I had to wait for the whitetail to clear out from behind him. The whitetail looks good but you can really see the antlers too well in the photo besides the side view.

Wyo Task Force - Nonres Comments!

I've been saying this for years. By the time you invest 20 or so years into the point game and as you get older your health may start to decline so if you want to hunt them head north. The real expensive moose hunts are going to be up in the Yukon or some of the areas in Alaska where they...

    Monsoons in SW Colorado

We are back under a flash flood alert, I'm crossing my fingers since I need to go to Glenwood Springs in the morning. They just cleared a debris dam on the Colorado River Saturday afternoon that was diverting water onto or near I-70. Now we have a wildfire next to I-70 2 miles away...
