Gents, Hello to you all here! I stumbled on this site doing to research for a tag I drew, and im glad I found you all, looks like a wealth of knowledge all in one place!
My name is Bruce Olenkamp, I live in the greatest place ever...SoCal....(can you hear the sarcasm in my voice) I was born and raised here all my life, grew up on a dairy farm in Chino, Ca. My wife and I have one child now that just turned one years old,my son Easton.... Needless to say he is my world my everything! I am the oldest of my 5 other siblings....family is everything to me, without your family you have nothing! I see this more then ever now as I have siblings in Texas and New Mexico now...and god know I miss them!!! Jesus Christ, he is my lord and savior and am not afraid to announce my faith and love for him!
I have been raised outdoors my whole life, If it had a trigger i was in! If it didnt I probably had a fishing pole in my hand!
I was a competitive trap shooter for a long time, great memories doing that with my father and brothers! I got into predator hunting purtty heavily for a while, traveling all over the state and into Arizona to chase them dang predators! I built/modified my own guns and always loved building loads for each gun. I can honestly say I dont know the last time any of my firearms have been out of the safe.....I know.....sad...
In around 2007 i picked up archery and well is been over since then... I shoot competitive archery in the off season(if there is one...my wife says there isnt). I apply and hunt in any state that will give me a tag!!! I have hunted in Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah...soon to be Nevada!!!! All with a bow, something about it drives me harder and harder!!! Love the challenges it presents....and the highest of highs you can be on....and in a split second...the lowest of lows!!!!

I have a love for life, and live every new day as a gift. I will help anyone i can that asks for it. If there is anything any of you all need please feel free to ask, thanks for letting me be apart of your site, look forward to meeting more of you all here!!!

Hey Bruce, welcome to the forum. I grew up in Riverside CA and went to school at Ontario Christian High and played football there, class of 1982. Your last name sounds very familiar. Most of the kids there were off of the dairy farms in the area. I moved to Oregon only days after graduation. Glad to have you on the forum.

Welcome Bruce. As a former southern Californian, I know your frustrations. I was born & raised in Downey when most of the dairys were in Paramount and Artesia/Dairy Valley. I played football at USC and worked aerospace until I retired and moved here to SW Colorado 14 years ago. I used to hunt geese with my Dad in Chino, was really good for Honkers. Dad owned a Duck Club in Imperial Valley near Niland/Wister. I too used to shoot a lot of ATA trap.
Glad to have you here with a lot of great people to share Knowledge, ideas, and advice.

Very cool. Your dad must have been on the football team that won the CIF championship. I sent you a friend request over on Facebook with my name. I doubt he would have remembered me cause I would have been a sophomore the year he graduated. I played JV that year for Mr. Hamming. :)

That's very cool CC. I grew up hunting ducks and geese around Wister. That would have been in the 1970's.

The business started my my dad has supplied high performance resistors for many years for space and aerospace projects.

My Dad and 9 buddies bought 200 acres on Pound Rd. right next to the Sea in 1955. They ponded it and made a duck club called the Imperial Duck Club. It was one of the first in the area, even before the state bought land and set up Wister. I was 14 at the time and shot lots of ducks and geese with Dad. He sold his interest and bought another 200 acres in 1965 right next to Wister and called it the Pintail Club, later renamed Rancho de Los Patos. My cousins own it now as I really didn't want to continue when I moved out of state.

On a side note, my Dad kept the mineral rights when he sold his share of the original Imperial Club. I own it now and it's leased to Hudson Power and there is a geothermal power plant on site that pays me a nice monthly royalty, thanks to my Dad. Goes a long way for paying for my big game hunting, my Dad would be pleased.

it would seem strange for me to say welcome to someone who has been a member longer than myself so I will just say hi.
