I would assume they merged due to budget cuts??
I think it was budget saving rather than cuts. Colorado legislature years ago designated G & F as an "enterprise", that is its supposed to be self sufficient getting no $$$ from the state for operations. Parks were not an enterprise. Got lots of funding from GOCO (Greater Outdoors Colorado) which is basically lottery profits. Both organizations answer to the Director Of Natural Resources. It happened about a year ago (+/_). Looks like in the long run might have been the right thing to do, but only time will tell. The bad thing is the Governor in his infinite wisdom hired a new Director from out of state, not promoting from within. Lots of grumbling and worries about the direction that the Dept is now going to go.

According to my neighbor (a Parks dept mgr) the opposite has actually happened, just because of the sheer number of G & F people compared to parks. He answers to a Regional G & F Mgr in Durango, where he used to answer to parks mgr in Ignacio. G & F probably was in better financial condition than parks, sure had lots more bodies working for them.

That is good to hear! I always worry when I see a chance outside money could get into G&F depts and have an influence but if its the other way maybe we will be able to hunt parks in a few years. LOL

There are several parks that allow hunting already (including big game). The "outside" money that influences G & F is outfitters and private land owners.
