WY PP question

Myself and two friends are putting in for Wy Antelope this year. Myself and one guy have zero PP. The third guy has 2 PP's. We are probably entering the special draw based on the area and % we are looking at.

My questions are- Will his PP's help the group or will our lack of PPs just hurt him? Does putting in as a group help or hurt your odds in general?

Thanks in advance for the help. I'm new to draws and thumbing through all the info can be mind boggling at times!

WY averages the groups points and the way I understand it is if you all applied as a group you would draw after everyone with 1 point but before anyone with 0 points so you could have a slight advantage if there are enough tags for your group come up in the PP draw. If your group doesnt come up in the PP draw and you go into the random draw PP's do not make a difference. If you all put in seprately there would be a better chance of someone drawing and would give the guy with 2 points a better chance of drawing. Putting in as a group either all of you draw or none of you draw.

You'll have .6666 points, which is a whole lot better than 1.5, and a whole lot worse than 1.750. Look at the odds report for your chosen unit and see where you stand.

So here is my sample unit (the one we will be applying for) from 2013

Here is my understanding and please correct me where im wrong.

this is the Special PP draw

Starts with 18 tags and goes down as applicants with more points run out. in this case if 18 people with 3 pps applied we would be SOL.

If we have .666 points and were in this draw we would all be drawn or would none of use be drawn since there aren't 3 remaining tags?

Tags issued pps applicants
18 2 <3 2
16 3 2 3
13 0 <2 0
13 7 1 7
6 4 <1 4
2 2 0 23

You would have been in the <1 category so as long as atleast 1 applicant had less then .666 points you would have drawn but if all 4 had more then .666 points your group of 3 would not have drawn.

Research is always fun! Most areas you can draw 2nd choice will have access issues (access is usually directly related to how hard/easy the tag is to get in WY) so do your research and figure out how you can access the public land in them and you should have a good hunt!

Thanks again. Im assuming the best thing to do is start making phone calls before I put in a 100 2nd choice draw to find an area. I don't mind paying a trespass. any contacts welcome lol:rolleyes:

If you look up the units on mytopo.com it will give you a good idea of the public land in the unit. Any unit thats 100% 2nd choice will have access issues. I would also highly recommend getting a good gps and a huntinggpsmaps chip. It will be invaluable hunting a unit with mixed public/private land.

I dont know anything about the etrek. I have a garmin oregon 450t that I am very happy with. You can also get the chip from cabelas and other places too.
