Here go your gun rights. SB374 just passed committee in the California State Senate. It is just flying right through the left controlled legislature in the Ca
They are unchecked and can do what they want.
SB374 will outlaw ANY semi-automatic rifle, centerfire or rimfire that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine. Even your Rugar 10-22 rifle will be illegal and you will be required to relinquish the firearm.
Call your senate representative and express yourself. Blow up their phones with calls.

SACRAMENTO -- A package of bills that would once again give California the nation's toughest gun-control laws passed a key legislative hurdle Tuesday, setting up a white-hot Capitol showdown.

The Assembly Committee on Public Safety hearing offered a preview of that battle, as dozens of gun-control advocates -- including some who have lost loved ones to violent crime -- faced off against gun-rights supporters who believe that a basic freedom is threatened.

"This entire package is not focused on trying to prohibit or limit law-abiding citizens from having guns," state Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, told the committee. "It seeks to close loopholes that were never supposed to exist."

But National Rifle Association lobbyist Ed Worley scoffed at that notion.

"We're not looking at a loophole," but rather a vast expansion of government control over a constitutional right, he said.

By the hearing's end, the committee had voted along party lines to approve bills that would add all semi-automatic rifles that accept detachable magazines to the state's list of banned assault weapons; ban owning any magazine that holds more than 10 rounds, including existing ones; ban "bullet buttons" that allow fast swapping of rifle magazines; require long-gun buyers to pass a written safety test; and add more crimes to the list of those that would bar someone from carrying a firearm. The bills, already passed by the state Senate, are moving inexorably closer to floor votes and the governor's desk.

They are doing it folks!!! Gun confiscation to follow after it completes all the steps but the left has majority so there is little to stop them.

Tuesday's votes followed similar actions Monday in the Senate Appropriations Committee, which voted to approve an Assembly bill aimed at prohibiting firearms in homes where any resident is legally barred from owning one, unless they're locked up or carried by a lawful owner.

California's gun laws -- including strict background checks and waiting periods for all gun purchases -- for decades made the state the most restrictive in the nation. But since December's massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., New York has leapfrogged ahead of the Golden State by toughening its assault weapons ban, expanding registration requirements and limiting magazines to seven rounds. Colorado's new gun laws, though not as tight as California's or New York's, have inspired a recall effort against two lawmakers.

Gun-control advocates are looking to California to restore some momentum to a movement that has stalled on the national level.

Tuesday's Assembly committee debate over Steinberg's SB374, which would ban semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines, was particularly heated.

Sitting next to Steinberg was Adrienne Egeland, who was teaching kindergarten at Stockton's Cleveland Elementary School in January 1989 when a gunman killed five children and wounded 29 more -- a shooting that inspired California's assault weapons ban. Egeland, her voice shaking, testified that the children's wounds looked like those she saw simulated during her Army basic training, "and all I had was Band-Aids."

But Worley contended that Steinberg's bill balloons the assault weapons law to include firearms that aren't even remotely of military style. Aaron Maguire, lobbyist for the California State Sheriffs' Association, called it "vastly over-inclusive of firearms that are legitimate sporting and hunting weapons." Gerald Upholt, lobbyist for the California Association of Firearms Retailers said, "You're looking at literally millions of guns" that would be affected.

Committee vice chair Melissa Melendez, R-Lake Elsinore, said the debate extends far beyond the state Capitol's walls: "My gun owners are blowing up my phones, saying 'You can't let this happen.'"

"We can't ban everything," she said. "This is about personal responsibility of human beings ... not the weapons they are using."

The committee approved the bill 4-2.

Craig DeLuz, lobbyist for the California Association of Federal Firearms Licensees, spoke against SB683, which would extend the state's safety-certificate requirement for handguns to long guns as well. Many who buy long guns will never own a handgun, he said, so there's no reason why people should be tested for knowledge of both.

Bill author Marty Block, D-San Diego, said 80 percent of the safety test would be the same for handguns and long guns, so state staffers determined it wouldn't be cost-effective to create two different tests. The bill passed 4-0.

State Sen. Loni Hancock, D-Berkeley, advocated for SB396, her bill to criminalize possession of all high-capacity magazines even if they predate the state's 2000 ban or were made with do-it-yourself kits. Such magazines "have no place in civil society," she said.

She said giving owners a year of advance notice before the ban takes effect -- as well as giving them options to sell their magazines outside California, sell them to a licensed dealer, destroy them or hand them over to police -- should be enough to sidestep any potential lawsuits challenging the ban's constitutionality.

Tom Pedersen, lobbyist for the California Rifle and Pistol Association, argued that "criminals do not follow the law," so the bill will do nothing to curb violence.

The committee approved the bill 4-2.

We are really facing the gauntlet as gun owners right now for sure. I never really wanted an ar15 until it started to sound like I couldn't have one.

I have a co worker who follows this stuff very very closely he said that the bill about semi autos had been changed removing rifles like the 10-22 probably done as a compromise to get something else. He also said the one thing that could spare us when it comes to some of these bills is ole Moonbeam is reportedly the proud owner of about 40 guns.

It is all extremely rediculous. The lead ammo ban could be enough to deter me from hunting here all together. Unfortunately I am stuck here for the next 20+ years until I retire in my line of work there is no money at all anywhere else.

Until the masses wake up and figure out that the Democratic party is out to rule the world with their extreme anti freedom views, we are doomed to more and more of this ridiculous thumbing of the nose at the constitutional rights of americans. We have gotten so used to the political correctness that the party is pushing, along with their RACIAL AGITATION tactics, that many people are afraid to express their opinions/views in fear of making "someone" mad. When people realize that California politics are the very bottom of the trash can, maybe they can learn from the things they see. We must let our voices be heard!

The problem, as I see it, is that this country is dividing into, among other groups, the urban dwellers and the non-urban dwellers, with the urban dwellers now out-numbering the non-urban dwellers.

The problem comes from the urban dwellers living in a bubble - they develop the attitude that the way things are where they live is the way things must be everywhere.

If they don't need guns, nobody else needs guns.

If they don't need a gas-hogging 4x4 pickup truck, nobody else needs a gas-hogging 4x4 pickup truck.

If they take public transit everywhere, everybody should take public transit everywhere.

Add in complete ignorance of even the simplest things that too many people demonstrate, then throw in a bunch of do-gooders, who are frequently just as ignorant, with an agenda and money to organize and spread their message.

Oh, then add in a good dose of hyposcrisy - these efforts to ban the ownership of certain weapons are supposedly done in the interest of safety, but more people are killed in automobile accidents every year but nobody's proposing that we ban them in the interest of safety.

I saw a good bumper sticker this weekend - It said "My assault rifle isn't illegal, it's just undocumented".

Better reserve the U-Haul early. Sounds like the roads out of this gun owner hell will be pretty crowded.

It is not a good idea to just shrug and write off the state as an isolated case.

Very, very often what starts in CA spreads across the country. And, CA is after all, 10% of the U.S. population. That's a pretty big bite out of gun ownership.

If you are not financially supporting the NRA, as a hunter, you really need to. This is not something to take lightly just because you don't live in CA.

For the whole state? This is the dumbest thing I ever seen. There is no proof lead bullets killed anything they werent ment to kill. Glad I dont live there anymore. I am headed there tomorrow unfortunately. My .38 and .22-250 are both going with me with lead bullets and I really dont care what they think of it!

The stupidest thing of all is they started with protecting those dumber than rocks Condors from "lead poisoning" from gut piles, then their rational is why not protest all the the animals from the lead.

A little here...a little there, pretty soon they got everything!

I honestly don't know what to do or think about any of this stuff anymore.

Many people in this state, including the majority of people in the state legislature, believe that they can arbitrarily tread all over the rights of another person for any reason, as long as enough people vote for it or it's popular enough.

They don't believe in or even understand the concept that you cannot restrict someone's rights without good cause.

The fact that a good majority of people are completely ignorant about guns and pretty much everything else only makes matters worse because there is no common sense and, more importantly, no inclination to understand what the truth actually is.

Then add in the idiots in positions to influence public opinion, like Morgan Spurlock, who categorically stated in one of his shows that nobody needs an AR-15 for home defense, or Piers Morgan who, despite admitting that he knows absolutely nothing about guns or anything related to them, says that nobody needs an Ar-15, 1,000 rounds of ammunition or 30-round magazines.

As long as this is the situation, the NRA and every other organization representing gun owners in this state can say all they want, they aren't going to do a bloody bit of good because they aren't going to make a dent in how the legislature votes.

The best thing that could happen to this state would be for it to be split in two, east and west, and leave the liberals and their followers to wallow in what they've created.

That's right Hoshour, If you're NOT an NRA member, by all means join. If you are a member get your family members & friends to join...If we don't hang together, we'll hang individually. It seems the Democrats that control California will always be after your guns.
Perhaps what just occurred in Colorado will open some eyes. Maybe not, someone might start a "Grassroots" movement for recall on some of these entrenched democratic Gun Grabbers. What do you think? Any chance?

That's not going to happen here. There are 8 or 9 counties in the state that are hard-core liberal. A Green or other similar party candidate would have a better chance of beating a Democrat in those counties than a Republican or other "conservative" party candidate could ever hope to have.

Those 8 counties also have a healthy majority of the population and the majority of the big-money people - movie stars, etc.

When Gray Davis got re-elected as Governor way back in 2001 or whenever that was, those 8 or 9 counties voted for him, the other 50 or so counties voted for the other guy and Davis still won.

That's why we have the problems that we do in this state.

Heard on the news tonight that Gov. Brown sign most of the gun bills. He did sign the one on banning lead for all hunting ammunition. He vetoed the ban on all semiautomatic rifles with magazines.
