My property is bordered by the Superior National Forest. In the last 14 years there has been two hundred thousand acre plus fires that have threatened my home. One was primarily in a wilderness area, and it was only actively fought when it reached an inhabited area. By then it was a true conflagration. (Pagami Creek fire - 2011) The (Greenwood fire, 3 0r 4 years ago) made a 15 mile run in my direction in one day.
I have been actively managing and thinning my 11 acres to reduce the fire danger, but if nothing is done on the nearby N.F. then my best plan is to just have good insurance. Fortunately, it looks like the USFS/ Dept. of Agriculture is headed my way (at least according to the management plan that myself and my neighbors received. We'll see.

Things came together on two fronts yesterday in regards to this issue. I received a call back from one of the foresters that worked on the fire mitigation plan in my area on Federal and State lands, and he told me that the bids would be put out for the project in 2026. Shortly later, I got a call from the U.S. Agriculture Soil & Water Conservation Dept. that my contract for similar work on my property is ready to be signed. The $$$ are not substantial, but will allow me to hire some help for some of the hard labor over the next two years.
