How did everyone's hunt go this year is it what you expected and are you going to change your plans for next year?

This year is still unfolding for me. I have a Desert Sheep tag in Nv.
I’ve had one hell of a year and I plan on carrying it onto next year. Plans do change but I plan on Wyoming Deer and Antelope, Nevada Deer, then a few fishing trips to Idaho and Wyoming.
Time will tell but those are my plans.

didn't even bother to hunt this year. probably the first year since I was six, I just didn't feel the desire to go.
was a time I spent every waking moment thinking of the next hunt. now I don't even care.

feels like it has become something I am supposed to do rather than something I want to do.

I expect all married men can relate.

I filled one of two big game deer tags that I had in my home state this year of which I am grateful.
Been applying in many states but draw odds have plummeted recently and with all the state changes coming I feel pressure to just spend my points and get out. My interest has decreased as a result.

No plans this next year

Not a bad year so far. Didn’t get out much with the bow early due to kids sports. Didn’t fill my Idaho deer tag. Did well at hint during rifle season. I’ll try to get out 1 day with the muzzleloader to put some more meat in the freezer. Next week I’m heading to South Dakota to watch my buddy shoot a bison. Then from there heading to Nebraska with the muzzleloaders to chase deer. Then it’s back here for late season archery. Maybe make it to Kentucky for late bow as well.
Next year……repeat. Hopefully draw some tags

So where do I start....

Mule deer, more people than I have ever seen in a spot that tends to get over looked on normal years. It was nuts, making me do a serious reevaluation.

Elk, well took a long shot gamble, will see how it goes tomorrow, maybe????

Antelope, terrible tag. Made it fun with kids.

Looking for more opportunity for next year for Whitetails.

Ya that deer tag you had should have been a slam dunk for you but I could tell things this year went wacko in the spot! Man truly hate trying to find a new spot but we are in the same boat and working on a new area trying to find that spot.

I've had a real busy summer and fall; drew no tags out west, so I've been off the grid here for quite some time. Some minor family drama, and being on a messy, albeit interesting project at work have also done their part to keep me away.

But, things are starting to level off enough that I hope to get out and tag a whitetail freezer queen or two here at home in Dec/Jan. I love still hunting in the winter for deer, and am really looking forward to getting out. I'm coming down to the wire on completing my Savage 110 '06 to 35 Whelen conversion project, but expect to have it done before the Dec 10th opener of the 2nd gun season out here.

To answer your questions?

Honestly, with what I have going on, this is probably the way it will be typically, until I can hopefully retire in < 10 yrs. And, that's ok. I'm cool with it. I almost went to CO/WY to camp/scout/fish/hunt small game in Oct, but things just got a little too busy this yr. I think next yr for sure, if I don't draw any tags, I will make that trip. So, there ya go, there is change of plans for 2023 or a New Year's resolution in there. 🤠

With this 90/10 looming in WY, and I don't have a lot of pts-just stuck in the mid-range no-man's-land-, I'm keen to try to blow my deer and antelope points in yearly successions to cut my losses and cancel my 'subscription'. I will still come out to hunt antlerless, when I can draw those tags, but that will be it; other than bull elk, which I will keep simmering til I retire, or can devote the time to spend several weeks away from home chasing one.

Actually this year was better than I expected. No one in the family drew any special tags so we all did OTC hunting here in Or. We archery hunted elk and rifle hunted Blacktail deer, both on the west side of the state. Neither hunts are remotely high success rates but I’ve spent toms of time hunting the west side, 40 years to be exact.
My daughter took a nice 5x6 bull with her bow and both her and I took decent 3 point blacktail bucks. A better than average year for us, especially being weekend warriors.
Next year there could be some draw hunts on the table, time will tell. I don’t see anything out of state but you never know.

No western hunts this year. Put a Whitetail doe in the freezer last Saturday. Our rut will start in a couple of weeks here in Mississippi. I don’t really have anything on camera that excites me right now but usually have a good buck move through my property during the rut. Grandsons have put three in the freezer so far. We can take five does and three bucks per year but I usually just kill a couple. Gun season opens the weekend before Thanksgiving and runs through the end of January. Hope to make it back out west in the next couple of years.
