4 wheel drive projects

Is anyone else out there a fellow old 4x4 aficionado? I've been hooked on old suburbans for years and have a '72, '68, '90, plus our "new" family one that is an '09. I have a bit of remorse at recently selling my '72 project I've been working on, off and on, for 12 years. The exterior and interior were still a work in progress, but the running gear/drive train/exhaust/etc. is dialed. Lots of hard work heading down the road. Here's the '72....if anyone else is interested, I'll post pics of the '68 and '90. The '68 is all original with only 35,000 miles and the 90 is close to cherry. Love my old burbs! Who else has this disease?!

Not a 4 wheel drive, but I picked up this 66 GMC a couple years back. Just finally getting my shop done enough to start working on it. It should be a fun rig to tinker with!

Got the V6 in it. Great engine for back then 6 cylinder.

Yes the 305 V6

Personally I like the straight 6 over the V6, a lot more torque with the inline 6

Here is my 68 and 90. 68 is all original....35,000 actual miles on it. The 90 is our family pride and joy...

Looking at the pictures kind of makes me want my old 77 K5 Blazer. Man that thing would 4 wheel and go just about anywhere. But after 200,000+ miles on the I looked at it and saw a rust spot on the fender and put my finger through it.

But when I traded it in I got top price for it which was just $2K less than I paid for it.

I also had a old 1942 Ford Jeep with the 134 Hurricane flathead 4 cylinder, now talk about a 4x4...

Oh man, I hear ya. I used to have an 82 Blazer that was like a member of the family . I had the same rust problem you described. Sure miss that rig!

No doubt! Even at 55 it is whining pretty loud! No way would it make 100....LOL!

I could see that tub on a late model 1 ton 4x4 chassis. That'd turn some heads.

It would be great . We had a 65 4x4 pu and a 62 2wd pu growing up. In high school I had a 65 short box 4x4 that I put a 396 big block in. They are my favorite rigs

Great vehicles, and the big thing is that you can actually work on them without a thousand dollars worth of electronic equipment.

I was just talking to a friend the other day at how simple things were back before fuel injection and computers in vehicles. They were so simple and could be fixed quite often with a screwdriver and a few wrenches.

My biggest problem with those Blazers were the carburetors. We used to just swap them out for a Holly just so that we could work on them easier.

I think I’ve narrowed it down to fuel pressure. I have a new fuel pump showing up today. I’ve replaced everything else, fuel tank to carburetor and everything in the ignition system. It runs like a top till about 4500rpm then acts like it runs out of gas. I’ve had both Holley and quadrajet carbs on it and same results.
My other 4wd project is my 79 CJ5. It runs really good! Small block 427 with 600hp I’ve had the Jeep for 32 years. It used to be my only vehicle but now is my favorite toy.
