Wyoming Elk Question

Im sure this is a stupid question and i apologize for this but i have to ask anyways Do general elk tags in wyoming allow a hunter to use it for either archery or gun? I am planning to put in for a general tag for next season and we are debating on going for archery or gun, the unit i am thinking about is area 35. We currently have 5 preference points. Any help is appreciated! Thanks. Luke

Area 35 is not a General area. It is a limited quota tag that is only good for that area. Most areas in Wyoming do allow a person to hunt the archery season and then return for rifle. For elk area 35 on the type 1 tag, you can archery hunt the last two weeks of September and if unsuccessful, you can return for the rifle season. You can see any areas information here- https://wgfd.wyo.gov/Hunting/Hunt-Planner/Elk-Hunting/Elk-Map. Just click the area and you can see the license choices and the corresponding seasons.

On the hunt page spreadsheet on the Wyoming Game and Fish site if the area lists general rather than limited quota your tag is valid. TagHub does a great job when you filter it to the general units of providing a visual. If you go that route make sure also select the Either Sex option, bull only units only has about 5 or 6 options.

So for elk areas 36 or 37 which are general areas, could we either archery hunt or gun hunt?

Yes, September 15th-30th. Only the type 9 permit holders can hunt the first 2 weeks in those areas.

After clicking the area on the interactive map, click the more info button in blue. That brings up the full licenses available and their respective seasons. I would assume Taghub can provide the same information that is a little easier to sift through.

Yes it does, along with an easy ways to see the success rates in each unit.
