This was my college roommate’s first (and only) elk. It was only about 300 yards below the road. He didn’t have much packing experience at the time, and the pack was as heavy or heavier than he was. When he stopped to rest the weight on a stump, my brother and I warned him not to lean back. He did not heed our advice. When he stopped rolling, the elk looked to be in better shape than the pack frame or him.

Man I am glad packs have come along ways from here. That makes my shoulders hurt just thinking about it...LOL
When I upgraded from an Army plywood packboard to a Camp Trails freighter frame, I thought I had reached the pinnacle of meat packing. It took me over 20 years to move on from the freighter frame.
