Well, how did everybody hunting Oregon do in 2011? Post up some pics or excuses or both! :p

I hunted Roosevelts exclusively and hunted pretty hard in hopes of killing a really big bull. I hunted 17 full days and numerous evenings after work. All in all I had a great season just wasn't able to place a giant bull in the right spot to kill. I called a bunch of bulls in but of course the ones that came marching out in the open were younger bulls. There is so much pressure (here's the excuse :D) on public land that I have almost given up any hope of calling in a giant old bull as they have heard it all it seems.

I spotted this guy on my way out the last evening (last hour) of my hunt and was able to crawl into 30 yards and make a perfect broadside double lung hit. He ran about 40 yards, stopped got wobbly and tipped over. My son killed one just like him a few days previous so we will eat well!

Can't wait for next year!

Lets hear some more stories!

Talking with buddys that hunted eastern oregon. Not much luck. Hot and dry. Bulls werent talking. Only saw a couple camps that had a elk hanging. We go to Ukiah unit this weekend for rifle deer.

Thanks sjsmallfield! I will always be pleased to harvest an elk with my bow and getting to hunt the full season then killing this one works just fine for me.

Good luck on bucks Pre 64!

There has to be some more stories from Oregon out there.....

This was my second archery season and I finally connected on this cow. It was the last saturday of the season and I spotted her from about 500 yards out. I was able to close the distance to just under 40 before she started to figure something wasn't right. Fortunately she held up at the tree line long enough for a quartering away shot.
Pretty exciting season. Was able to call in my first Bull and had an incredible exchange. Didn't work out, but thrilled to come away with meat in the freezer.
