I'll be hunting the high country, some alpine, some sub-alpine, high ridges, forested slopes, a bit of everything. One bowl I love to hunt is a series of meadows, sub-alpine forest with lots of openings creeks and tarns. I live directly in the Kootenay Rockies(the Purcell and Selkirk ranges) so every single hunt is a mountain hunt. Weather and time are the two variables that dictate how high I go, day hunts don't typically get over 1800+/- meters(6000ft) while backpack trips will get up to 2200+/- meters(7200ft). Not many of our mountains in this region go over 2500m(8200ft) and at that height there isn't any vegetation.
Our season begins on September 1 with bow(I don't bow hunt) so I hunt upland game birds in the high country until rifle season opens on September 10. By the time I'm hunting big game they aren't typically in velvet anymore.
