What do you all do for cleaning shoulder mounts? Anything i should be using to help keep bugs off of them, a type of spray maybe? I vacuum them from time to time to help keep dust out.

I've heard of a product called Mount Saver and will probably buy some to try. Windex on a paper towel helps to dust the hide. Windex on a qtip for eyes. WD-40 on a rag to shine antlers (not kidding), but use a diluted Mop & Glow solution on sheep horns.

Windex seems to work well. Sometimes we use lemon pledge on a rag to clean the antlers. Doesnt take much cause I just got babies on the wall compared to some people lol.

I vacuum the dust off and use a very soft brush to go over the hair. Windex on q tip for the eyes. I use a water dampened rag for the antlers. I don't like them looking shiny as it isn't natural to me. I do use a dark furniture polish on antelope horns to keep them dark. Over time they tend to whiten a little as they dry. You have to be careful to not get any on the hair as antelope hair really can soak it up and stain.

A soft brush and a damp cloth, or as stated above, a gentle vacuuming. I used a bug proofer when I had my taxi business. It was good for a few years. I told all my clients to spray their mounts with permetherin once a year. I used it for years with no ill affect. Of course if you try a new product, go sparingly in a discreet area at first to see if there is a negative result.

To clean your mounts go to a feed store and buy the show spray for horses. It conditions and cleans the hide. I also use this on all mounts right before the customer picks it up. You can get a wire brush used for welding to brush it.
