Out of curiosity, what are the "maximum points" in Oregon? I see lots of internet stuff explaining their system but not for when it started. I know I'm nowhere close to max.

East side mule deer went to draw in 84? But if I remember correctly points started in about 89 or 90, think it's turned over at least once for points. Meaning everyone has drawn their tag at least one time.

I have 16 elk and 14 antelope. Just a couple for deer.
14 for antelope should definitely get you into Warner or Whitehorse or E Beatty's Butte. Do NOT drink the cool-aid and wait for Hart Mountain.

I got 15 for elk and fell for the trap of the Big Three and now I am in too deep to quit. If I had buddies with horses I would party apply for snake River and have a great hunt. As it is I will wait 5 more years for Mt Emily and pray we have a wolf season by then. LOL

It’s crazy that it takes 15 points to draw an antelope tag here. I cashed my 15 point in a few years ago, that was my one and only antelope in Oregon. I’m not playing that game again.

It’s crazy that they make you wait 15-20 years and then you have to hunt in August!!!

I have 21 NR for elk/deer/lope and would have cashed this year had it not been for the wife wanting to go with me. The way it is, I'll have some major decisions to make next application season, wanting to avoid a hunt overlap after waiting soooo long. First goal is Mt. Emily elk, where I'd milk every day out of the one month season length, even though much is pre-rut.

It's all good, I'm not in a big hurry to draw. I'll just keep buying points for now. My wife is an Eastern Oregon girl and we own a small place there. If she gets her way, and she almost always does, we'll move there someday. Then I'll apply as a resident. Oregon is stingy to the non-residents!

I assume you would go after the Mt Emily late deer tag along with the elk tag. That month of elk hunting sure would be some great scouting time to pin down a couple nice bucks for later.

You know I?ve tried to do several combo hunts in the past. None of them worked out. My mind is always open to ideas, but I really prefer to focus on one hunt if I invest so long waiting.

Saw a group of good bulls along the Umpqua last week, I would love to have a tag in that unit. oregon elk 2018.jpg

Wapitibob could you PM me. I looked at the report and I must be an idiot. I did draw the 470a tag but don?t really understand how I got it by the report.
