Elk Rifle - What do you shoot?

I hunt everything from jackrabbits to elk with my Rem. 7mm mag. 175 grain bullets for elk and 150 for everything else. It's been deadly on every elk I have ever shot except for the one I missed. I've never needed more gun or thought it was too much. Not bad on recoil either.
My son used the wife's Rem. 270 with great results as well using 150 grain bullets.

I too shoot a Remington 700 in 7mm mag. Only gun I hunt big game with. I use 155 grain for everything. Killed a bull at 182yards in one shot. Taken 2 mulies and 2 antelopes as well, up to 300 yards, all single shot kills.

I've shot them with a lot of rifles, 243, 6mm, 30/06, 338, 7 RM, 300 WM, and 7-08...shot some with arrows too.

The last 30 or so, almost exclusively 7 RM or 7-08.

Mostly use the 7-08 these days.

Putting my 6mm back together after I get it back from pacnor...I reckon it will see some elk action by this time next year.

For straight up cool factor, the last elk I killed with a 30/06 was with my Dad's pre-64 model 70. My Grandfather, Dad, and I all have killed deer, elk and pronghorn in Montana with the same rifle...this elk completed the tri-fecta. My late Grandfather also shot a MT grizzly with it as well.

Nice to see another 6mm Remington addict on here!! Mines in a Ruger 1B with a 6x42mm Leupold on it. Love that rifle and 100 gr. Nosler Partitions!!

I have shot them with a few different rifles..7mm, 308, 300 Win Mag, and most recently 257 Weatherby. I think I will be carrying the 257 from here on out.

Have used a 25-06, 260, 270, 7-08, 280, and 30-06 to take elk. Mostly a 270 or 280 of late. All worked very well.

my go to for elk is a Weatherby Mark V in 338 Winchester Mag.

When I can draw a tag which isn’t very often I use a 300 rum cdl topped with vx1 4-12. When hunting dark timber I have a marlin 336 35 rem topped with 2-7 redfield. Just need a tag now!!!

I shoot a pre-64 (1952) Winchester Model 70 30-06 with 165 grain Noslers. Same one my Dad used.

I've never shot an elk with a rifle, but if I did, I would use my Browning a-bolt in 300 Winchester

Been shooting a 7 STW for about 23 years now in a Winchester sharpshooter built by HS shooting 160 accubonds.
I'd say 90% of the critters I shoot with it drop dead in their tracks when I place m crosshairs center of shoulder.

I've used a 30.06 for a lot of years & have had a lot of luck with it. But, I have recently picked up a 7mm Remington to try & so far I really like it. I shoot Hornady bullets (SST & now ELD-X) & they have performed really well out of the .06 & the 7mm.

remington 700, 300 win mag became my all time favorite gun. I use to shoot a 270 for deer and goats and just got to love my 300 win mag more I got a 2nd one. both remington 700s and for factory ammo both shoot barnes ttsx 180 grains 1" groups at 100 yards.

I held a Kimber Mountain Ascent the other day. Wow was it nice. Shot well out of the box. 3/4" group at 100. Light as all heck at 5lbs and dare I say I thought the price point was very good for a semi custom gun. Cal was 7mm Rem Mag.

I also held one last week. Very light. I bet they have some good recoil but for the amount a person would shoot it I guess the trade off would be worth it. Be a great gun for carrying.

For me it depends what I'm hunting.... Open terrain where my shots can be over 300 yards? .7mm Remington Magnum with 180 gr. Berger handloads. Timber or more closed country where shots will be under 300 yards? .35 Whelen with 250 gr. Nosler Partitions.

If I could only have one? .7mm Remington Magnum gets the nod.

325 WSM as of late. Remimgton 700 from RHR. 200 grain Partitions at 2900 seem to do the trick. Practice to 500; but so far bulls have been 59(ranged afterwards), 65, 100, and 75.

Killed them in the past with 264 WM, 338 WM, 348 WCF, and .50 muzzy.
