I know we're still 2 weeks+ from posting, but I'm more anxious than normal this year. I've got an app in for a Type 1 and a Type 6, and plans for the rest of my fall hinge on the results. If I draw the Type 1, I probably won't apply for any other elk or deer tags (maybe a pronghorn) in case I need to make a return trip to try to fill that Type 1. If I get the Type 6 only, I'll probably enter the Colorado draw for a 3rd season deer tag for a 2nd trip west for 2018.

I do have AK results to look forward to between now and then, but I'm in for a 2019 bear hunt.. Hard to get too excited yet on that one since it's so far off.

Anyway, good luck to all who applied. Back to impatiently waiting now..

Like you, I really can't wait for the results, and the rest of my fall plans will hinge on these results. Really wanting to draw this tag and use the points, as this is probably the best year in the next several, for me to be able to spend 2 weeks up there.

I'm also in for a type 1 and a type 6. My type 1 should be a "guaranteed" draw but my type 6 is about 50/50. Planning 2 or maybe 3 trips- Early season cow hunt, archery any elk hunt, October rifle hunt if needed. I'll put in for moose but won't draw unless i draw the 1-600 tag.

This is the time of yr grown men regress back to their childhood, to when they were 7 yrs old, about 2 weeks before Christmas Day...[emoji318][emoji319]

Its that same feeling for me right now as back in December of 1979.

Type 6 tag-probably long odds-1st choice a little closer drive, 2nd choice a little farther. Like everyone else, fall plans and budgets based on the outcome. We'll know soon fellas. Time moves fast. The rodent already even came up his burrow to mess with us, we're nearly a week into Feb and Philly are the new champs. And on it goes.

At least they are posting results earlier this year than they have in some years past. February 22nd isn't too far away. That still gives guys a week to ponder moose application in Wyoming.

Elk hunting wyoming is really becoming a seemingly "rigged" deal. I went on the non-res special draw for a decent tag and the GEN as a backup... 2 years ago I cashed 8 points and finally got a great tag... but the weather for 10 days was 90 degrees and sunny. Saw a bunch of big bulls but they weren't really rutting in the 3rd week of september because of the heat and we couldn't get within bow range. now I can wait forever again to get a decent tag or pay the big bucks for years and stock up points while hunting GEN every year or two... RIGGED!

I'll take the Wyoming "rigged" system... I will hunt General tags the rest of my life... It really boils down to do you want 5 more elk hunts in your life or 20? I am opting for 20 and guessing I'll kill a lot more elk and even a couple trophies.

Well, herd management goals and winter kill/weather issues aside, it seems to me this style of hunting is growing in popularity.

Take me-in that sense - I'm part of the problem. The slice of the time pie that was my hunting was taken by my bird dog and bird hunting for 13 yrs until 2013 when he passed on. I decided to take a break from that game; seen Eastman's, Newberg, all sorts of kewl videos and here I am now trying to get out west now every year![emoji6]

The cheaper cow tags in WY show 'creep' as well. Many units have had the same quotas for years, but the number of applicants has soared. I think western big game hunting is "in" right now and that's part of what we're seeing.

I'm OK with the GEN but realistically the only time you get it as a second chance is in in the special draw. That's like $1300 bucks a year to MAYBE get an elk and have to really bust your as#.. plus hunting WY from MI is a lot harder and more expensive than from nebraska. It's a a yearly dilemma. I still have not gotten a really big bull... and that's on my bucket list....I miss the good old days when if you were an archery hunter you could get an amazing tag every year in NM, UT etc...

Wait.... So, you had bad weather, still saw a bunch of big bulls, couldnt kill one, and the system is rigged? Did you expect your 8 points to guarantee a dead bull?

Yes I waited 8 years to elk hunt in some phoenix AZ like- super sunny hot days when the elk weren't calling or rutting, and were watering on some gazillionaire's private ranch out in broad daylight sitting in a giant tank. 8 years x $50=$400 plus $1200 license, plus roughly $2000 in gas and gear round trip from michigan... $3600 invested... but I did get a nice tan!

Sorry you had a bad experience, I'd recommend no longer applying in Wyoming.

Closer to home, probably a guaranteed kill, and lots of pictures had snow, so the weather might even be cooler.

A lot.of people unfamiliar wiith Western hunting look at it like you're buying an animal, rather than buying the opportunity to hunt. When people find out how.much a NR tag is, a first response is often "you get that back if you don't kill one, right?"

By drawing a tag, you get the opportunity to hunt a wild animal in their natural environment. Sometimes it's hot. Sometimes the animals are hard to find. Sometimes you get snowed in at camp. Sometimes you go home empty-handed. But you had your opportunity to hunt.

If a person just wants to buy an animal to shoot with a gauranteed kill, there unfortunately are places where you can do that, and you don't have to worry about drawing any tags.

That's funny right there as I sit at my full time job providing for my wife and family. Trent and I rarely have to ban people, looks like a week away is in store.
