Just so you guys know what happen this passed weekend while hunting for my daughters deer.
We had come down off the mountain in our side by sides to get to the trucks to move into a new location my Stone Glacier pack with about $3k in gear inside including the pack blew out of the back of the bed of my side by side and I didn't see it. We got to the new location bout 45 min south when I went to get my spotting scope and realized it was gone! I seriously almost lost it guys! We where looking at a 180" 5x5 dream buck and I could honestly care less!
Long story shortened up I loaded back up left my kids and wife with our hunting partners and I hauled ass back to where we last used my spotter. Backtracking everywhere my pack was gone. I figured the worst as there is a lot of tweekers and hunters in the area that probably now have a great early Christmas gift.
I put a message on all social media outlets that I lost my pack, offered a substantial reward no tagged most everyone I could think of in hopes someone would see it and would return my pack.
I went back to meet up with the crew and just had a miserable afternoon with all my missing gear on my mind. That night I went to bed and was looking up and adding to my shopping cart of replacement gear and I got a notification from FB messenger. I switched over and there it was! A Guy said he had my pack and left his number. I called instantly and sure enough he found my pack off the highway where we got on to head south. I went to his house and picked up my gear, everything intact and other then some road rash on my pack everything thing survived.
I about had to make this Guy take $200 for returning my pack as he was just happy he was able to return it. I had a Mountain Lion tag in my pack and that's how he found me. Turns out we have a mutual friend too. Such a great guy and I am so happy there is still great folks out there that want to do the right thing.
Needless to say the next day we got my kids buck and we have a great story to tell.
Everyone, when these things happen I hope all of us hunters take the high road and do the right thing by each other. Doesn't matter what it is! Returning lost things we find, hiking up to a ridge and finding another hunter already there and leaving to find another spot and not sitting on the same ridge, saying hi or a wave and saying good luck to other hunters really goes along way.
Adversity can affect people in ways we don't know and maybe a simple smile and a wave to another hunter could make the difference in that persons life if only for a few minutes.
