So I have 2 elk tags. I wanted a spike for good eating and some wall decor. Well I got the good eating part taken care of. It is a small spike that is still in velvet. Now time to look for horns.
When I left the kill site it took me 3 hours to get back to it, to start packing quarters. In that time, something cached the carcass and started cacheing the quarters. I did scare it off of the gut pile when I came back. When I saw it run, my reaction was coyote, but I did not know of coyotes cacheing carcass. anyway I brought the loose meat out first and than relocated the truck and biked and packed the quarters to a gated road and then peddled it out. besides the loose meat going out to get my bike, 2 trips with the backpack and 2 trips on the bike. I did shoot it in its bed, while still hunting the timber.
