Went to the field with you this fall so far? Personally I have heavily leaned on .300 Win Mag.

What about you?

So far this fall it has been only the .54 muzzle loader.

This coming week it will be a .25-06.

The first of next month it will be a .340 Weatherby.

Then the end of December it will be back to the .25-06 but I am thinking for those real long shots on a coues perhaps the .340 Weatherby again.

So many calibers to chose from and too few hunts.

So far it's been my 6.5 Creedmoor for deer and antelope. I'll be taking the 300wsm for elk.

I just got back from an antelope hunt down by Bannack Montana (First Territorial Capital) and I got a nice doe for the freezer. I used my .280 AI that I had built on a Model 70 Winchester two years ago. I has taken three animals with three shots so far and that's what I'm going to use on my elk, deer, and black bear if I'm so fortunate. Using 140 gr. Nosler Partitions at a chronographed 3230 fps.

I brought my .50 cal. muzzleloader on my Colorado deer hunt in Sept. (no shot taken), and am headed out on Friday for an "any elk" Wyoming hunt. The go to rifle for that is a .338 Win. Mag. Model 70 Super Grade. I just had the best range session ever using 185 gr.
Barnes handloads. It will be my last attempt at taking a critter with the .454 Casull Taurus, which I will attempt if a lesser bull is approachable. Then on to the 30-06 Tikka for the Minnesota dear camp.

Depending on what species were hunting and the circumstance, I'll carry my .338 win mag and also a 25-06. If I feel like the opportunity might be ultra long range, then I'll take the .338 Lapua

I've changed over to 300 win mag. Used to have a mixed bag from 270-7mm-300. Its much easier to shoot one caliber, being able to pack one bullet that all rifles shoot is efficient and my hunting partner also shoots 300 so we are interchangeable if someone forgets ammo.

Other notables for me personally...

I have a .30-06 that has killed more elk for me than any other rifle. That one is usually my backup plan.

I also have a .300 WBY Mag that just plain knocks stuff down. I killed my biggest buck to date with that rifle and if I had thought through declination an even bigger one would have been dead.

I use my Ruger 30-06 for all big game. 165 grain Hornady Interbonds (factory superformance loads) for everything. I haven't had to adjust my scope in years...(Leupold vx3). I do take a 7mm-08 as a backup rifle but haven't needed a backup in many many years.
