My son got premium elk in Powers, I am happy
Love it. That's just down the road. I'd think the Bone Mountain Weyerhaeuser access permit would help make the most of that tag.

Thank you, Umpqua Hunter! I spoke with them before applying as I applied and got Sixes unit for myself, just late dates. Do you know if we can hunt both units with same access permit or we need to buy permit for each property? Have you hunted those units?

The past 4 years we have bought Weyerhaeuser access for another property.
I believe the Bone Mountain access is new this year. The big benefit of the access permit is that the Powers unit is largely owned by private timber companies and if if gets dry you can get shut out for weeks at a time due to fire season. With a paid access permit, I have found that your access is FAR better as the timber companies don't restrict their permit holders unless conditions are dire. My last tag in Powers (before access permits) I got shut out for basically the entire month of September which is exactly when you need to be there for the bigger bulls. I only got one afternoon of hunting in that season.
I've hunted Tioga, Powers, Dixon, Applegate and Indigo. Most of my Powers hunting was 25 years ago though.
If your son is willing to spend some money, I have heard Spoon Creek Outfitters is very good.

There's a mountain goat in the Eagle Caps that's in big trouble, a good friend of mine drew a tag and he is a beast of a hunter. Another good friend drew a premium buck tag, should be a fun fall for them guys.

We were not planning to hire outfitter this time as we have some other hunts scheduled, but definitely we will get the access permit. I am planning to be in area next weekend as I am going to my cousin wedding in WA and will spend couple days in those units for scouting on our way there or back. Feel free to pm me if you would like to share any info.

drew a 1st choice eastern ore cow tag and also a wenaha bow deer as a 4th choice,,ill take it but now im really maxed out with my other state draws,,,nice problem to have this year.remember folks,work you odds as multiple choices do happen once in a while,,this might be my first 4th choice ive ever got for Oregon,,not a great tag,but still a draw.

Wow I just realized that I hadn't been on here in two years.
I will be giving up my OR resident status after this season, so I cashed em in. (for Elk at least)
Best I could do during the time I could hunt was Ochoco. Wasted a couple of points but I wasn't going to sit on what would be NR points after this year.

Drew our elk tags for the family. Should be fun this year with a couple young people. Haven't set up the wall tent in about 5 years.
Drew my regular second choice deer tag, so I will keep my eye out for the Timberstalker on the mountain up there in case he picked up that one also.

Well this turned out to be a great year for the draw for us! My daughter drew her mountain goat tag and I drew my antelope tag but that was expected! I was lucky enough to get to do the same hunt in 2012 with my buddies wife tag, so should be another great adventure! Good luck to all this year.

My party drew first season eastern spike on a second chance draw, figured it to be a long shot and lucked out. My deer was unsuccessful which is ok. Blacktail it is this year, probably rogue.
