I'm getting ready to re-barrel my 22-250. I have an older Remington 700 I bought used that's groups have gone from MOA to 3MOA no matter what I try. It has a Timney trigger and HS precision stock, so I think I'll just re-barrel what I have and not start over.

What are your favorite yote bullets from the 22 caliber? I'm trying to find one that won't wreck a bobcat if the opportunity arises but will penetrate enough for a yote that's running away. I think my favorite I've used before is the 55gr Sierra Gameking, but I haven't tried to many at 22-250 speeds. Just that one, the 55gr Ballistic tip, and 50gr V max.

Thanks.

I shoot a 223 at varmits. 45 grain v max for pdogs and 55 grain hornady sxsp for coyotes. I don't care much about the pelts so I shoot them with whatever is loaded. Both shoot great out of my gun, but I can't remember what powder or how much I used. Dad had some killer loads for a 22-250, but I don't remember what. I'll have to check with him.

I have been shooting a Speer 52 grain HP at around 4000fps out of my Ruger 1V 22-250 for about 40 years now. It is accurate and very deadly at what ever I have shot with it. Parrie dogs and ground squirrels just disappear when hit with it and I have never lost a coyote that has been shot with it. A bob cat would just fall over if hit with one with very little damage to the pelt.

I have a suggestion, before you give up on the original barrel, check it out for copper deposits. I had a barrel that did the exact same thing and my 'smith looked at it with a borescope and said it needed a good scrubbing. I really got after it and spent a couple of weeks scrubbing it. It cleaned up like a mirror inside and shot great after I got done.

Give the Sierra BlitzKings a go, very accurate in my varmint rifles, i run the 50's through the .223's and the 55's through the 22-250's. They have been very fur friendly if you hit em in the middle.......not so much if hit on the edges.

I already tried that. I cleaned it over about a week until a patch with Hoppes #9 would come out without a trace of blue after sitting overnight, then used Montana copper killer after that to see if I could get more. I figured maybe the hot Superformance loads were leaving a lot but I can't get any more copper to come out.

I had the same thing and thought it was clean as no blue came out and someone told me to try Bortech and when I did it came out blue for many cleanings. Brushed it in and let set and run a patch. I was so surprised. As far as pelt savers I used a FMJ bulet out of the 22-250. Tiny hole in and out. They may run 20 yds but no pelt blow up. If not the FMJ maybe slow down your bullet so you don't get too much blow up. Had a friend that swore by some 40 gr loads but they do not buck the wind well. I would imagine if hunting some cats your shots would be somewhat close @ 100 yds and in if your doing some calling.

55 grain sierra blitz kings work good in my ar15 1/9 twist. Sierra 65 grain game kings shoot really well. But tore the coyote up.. The 55 grain blitz kings just left one entry hole. No exit wound...
