Took 90 minutes of heat from 3 propane heaters to get my work truck started yesterday morning at -24. It's a Duramax, surprise once I got it started I tested the batteries and one was toast. Suppose to be really nice here next week.

Ah, the joy of owning a diesel.

I started my 96 Ford diesel yesterday after not having started it for over a month. I did plug the block heater in for a couple of hours but she fired right up with no problems.

When you replaced that one battery did you have the other one tested to see if it was up to snuff? I always replace mine in pairs as a just in case type of thing. It only hurts the pocket book until the next payday or when you have to pay the credit card.

Its been below zero here a few nights too. I plug my trucks in when it gets cold. Thats what the block heater is for. Much easier on everything!

Stopped snowing, stars are out now. Going to get cold, only made it to 11 today. Truck is plugged in and ready for what ever tomorrow brings. I'm planning on burning lots of firewood and making home made bull meat chili tomorrow. Oh and plowing snow.

You might want to try a timer on that block heater for your truck and have it come on around 3 hours before you need the truck. It will save you a few cents to waste on something else. Most block heaters pull around 1000 watts or 1kw so depending on what you pay for a kw from your electric company it can add up quick if you leave it plugged in all night.

I'm aware of that, I used to use a timer, but never seen the difference on a power bill. It's an old 7.3 and it doesn't like single digit weather.

That is what my truck is a 96 Powerstroke. You might want to test out your glow plugs and the glow plug relay with the relay being the weak point. I started my truck up the other day after not starting it since before Thanksgiving and she fired right up on the glow plugs alone.

All that is good, it will start cold, just don't like doing it if I don't have to. Thanks for th helpful thoughts though.

It was 16 here Saturday morning with a windchill of 3. I am moving to the south. Way to cold up here in the north...lol. supposed to be in the 70's by Friday. No block heaters needed for that.

good crap, kids had school on day the week before Christmas vac due to snow, and they have only been back one day since due to snow and cold. school doesn't get canceled here for a little snow. has been a very crazy winter! yesterday it got near 40 In less than 24 hours of being well under zero. flooding everything yesterday and turning rds to slush, and last night it dumped again several inches. just as I shoveled driveway to go antler hunting with the dog I get a phone call saying school is canceled again! dag gummit.

Same here with school, day a week since mid December. With modern technology they should be able to do classes online in these situations. Hell they issue the kids chrome books, why not use them for something other than games.

I haven't been out to see if I can even get around, I highly doubt I can. Haven't seen this much snow here in decades. I've nearly worn my snow shovel out.

I'm on the shovel snow/feed the stove with firewood work out plan myself. Been lifting a few 12oz weights here and there in the afternoon and using my heaviest coffee cup every morning to fill in the gaps.
