Well, this year my uncle, cousin, and a buddy came out to Kansas to hunt Whitetail for the first time with me. They intended on staying 5 days, but unforeseen circumstances had their trip cut short before they even got here. Season opened on Wednesday and they had to leave Saturday morning at the latest, but the earlier the better. In KS, a non-resident gets a buck and doe tag when they draw out, so we had 6 tags to fill for them and two more antlerless tags to fill for me in just a few days. To say the least... it was a huge success. Lots of deer hitting the ground and some good meat is heading back with them to New Mexico. A couple great bucks shot and a couple massive does were shot. In short, all 6 tags were filled by today... Friday morning. I usually bow hunt by myself or one other person and to go rifle hunting with 3 other guys was definitely different from the usual way of going about things, but it was so much fun! Lots of laughs and jokes, but most of all a good time spent with family and friends. They all shot the first bucks that came out. One guy wasn't as lucky as the rest, but they all left happy with the hunt and hopefully will return again soon! Now I just need to fill one more doe tag and we will all be set with meat for the year!

Congratulations, sounds like you guys are having a great hunt.

I got tagged out this morning on an old 9pt buck I first got pics of last February. I got a few pics and found a shed, a 4pt side that scored 73". This year I had hoped he would show back up but the cameras and time spent glassing from hilltops never turned him up. I had a couple blurry pics on Nov 21 I hoped might be him and then my camera quit on the 24th and I didn't catch it until the 30th when I checked it. The last couple days hunting I had seen some signs of rut activity still going on from smaller bucks so I decided to go try the area where I had seen the 9pt this morning, hope to find him cruising for a doe. About 7:30 I caught him coming over the hill from behind me. The wind was right and I waited until he cleared the brush. I didn't want to wait for him to come clear in front of my blind because he may have hit the timber before offering a shot. I rested the 264WM on the blind's support rod pushed the muzzle up against the mesh in the window, and sent the 140gr Berger on it's way. The buck was at 144yds and didn't show any sign of being hit, but by the time I had another round in and him in the scope again he was staggering 30yds further up the hill. I called my wife and she brought my daughter up, they took pics and we got him tagged and taken care of. The old buck has significantly shorter tines and main beams than last year but has awesome mass. He was definitely on his way down and probably 8 or older. He has an inside spread of 19 3/8" and gross scored 156" He makes up for the short mains and tines with mass, only one mass measurement is under 5.5" and he has a total of 45 6/8" of mass measurements. Definitely an awesome old buck I'm happy to tag out on. With the muley from Wyoming and this 2016 has been a great year!
