Couple of questions for you guys putting in for Arizona im from cali looking to begin building points in different states I have couple in Nevada and California I have hunted Nevada california and Utah what's the deal with arizonas extra point for hunters safety class? Is this a 1 time point added to your points til you use them up? If I apply this year will I never be able to take that class and get that free point? I looked online only seen 2 classes left this year not use I can make them but would like to apply this year. Should I wait til next year and go to class and apply for a point? Im trying to do
My research early this year.

As I understand it, the hunters safety class point is always there, permanent. They give one for loyalty too. I think AZ points are bonus points, although for one part of the draw they are treated like preference points if I recall correctly.

The std class requires a field day. The special NR class is this coming saturday and has no field day. It's a rules/regs class for NR only.

Take a class if you're serious about AZ.

ok so what is the difference in preference point and bonus point?
I seen they had the class this weekend won't be able to make it in short notice. can anyone take this class at any time even if i have purchased a arizona license or will this have to be done before ever purchasing my first arizona license and draw? does this point only go towards deer? or would it help me if i apply for elk as well? i see they are excepting paper applications for elk draws already was thinking about applying for this if I'm gonna buy the license for deer anyways. whats your thoughts?

Preference points are like a seniority system, most points wins. Bonus points simply give you added chances in the draw, some am extra chance per point, some square points for even more chances. Hybrid systems use concepts from both. So far as I know, take the class when you can, it may or may not get updated in time for a draw. Points are used by species, so as far as I know, a hunter safety point would help for all, WB would know for sure.

I think you can take the Hunter Education class and get the permanent point anytime, not necessary before you start applying. I mean you can apply this year and take the class next year. Can somebody please confirm that? I am in same position, have some points in Arizona and haven't taken the class yet, planning to go there this summer if the class will be available.

Is it different from their normal class that you take? I looked online but I didn't notice anything special about it.

WB in your post you mentioned this Saturday 1/9? Not 1/16 correct? Also if the class is not on the site, where would I find it at?

Thanks

Correct, class was Saturday. It is posted every year in the arizona sub forum on monster muleys. Don Martin resides there and he is the head honcho for that specific class.
Cost me $1000 for airfare, motels, eats, and rental car for the wife and I for the weekend. Fly to Vegas then drive to kingman for the class. Worth every penny. I'll never have less than 2 points which puts me in late rifle hunts every 2-4 years. At my age I'm out of the running for early archery.
