I'm always amazed at how many non-residents complain about the low number of tags available to them.
My problem is with bait-n-switching used on folks who are sold on and invest in one system and are handed a totally different one. And Obamarama outfitter welfare. Why don't they call it what it is? Instead of giving it touchy feely names.

I feel for non-residents who apply in Oregon, but even for residents, quality hunts are very few and far between. Reports so far for my family:

Me: Second choice elk tag (always has leftovers)
Wife: Zero
Nephew: Zero
Niece: Zero
Son: Second choice elk tag (always has leftovers), second choice deer tag
Daugther-In-Law: Second choice elk tag (always has leftovers), second choice deer tag
Daughter: The big winner with an easy to draw youth cow and buck tags.

That is 7 people and not one tag that was worse than 50% draw odds. It is easier for me to draw quality tags out of state.....BY FAR.

Yes of course it's all Obama's fault. There was no such thing as welfare before Obama was elected TWICE. Get over it.

I'm one of those guys that's stuck in the Oregon drawing process. I have too many preference points to just quit, but too few to draw anything worthwhile. Had I started applying when I first married my wife, 23 years ago, I might be okay. She's from Oregon. I have 11 Antelope, 13 Elk and 3 Deer.
I don't get too excited over hunting there other than my annual pheasant/chukar missions.

There was no welfare for outfitters anywhere when I began hunting.
Things change.
When I started hunting here in NV we could just go to the local bait store and buy a deer tag, buck or doe and hunt anywhere in the state.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could do that now? Not really because in those days the deer were few and far between. But then I guess someone would bitch about having a tag and no deer to shoot.

The only folks that are in favor of outfitter welfare is outfitters. They run to the legislators bitching for free handouts.

I fell sorry for all the non-residents applying here,,,A large portion of the good non-res tags go to the outfitter welfare system and that isn't fair at all.I only hunt here cuzz im a resident.I go out of state for real hunts.oregon certainly will not give you much bang for the buck, value wise.

Oregon has several thousand of my dollars in license and application fees. Can't pass up a chance at their sheep. The ridiculously low amount of tags available to NR's is shameful. I'll be in a walker before I draw a decent antelope tag!

A nr with 19 points drew the one tag that Zim was after. He had no chance with that guy applying and with 2 other nr guys in his point pool continually trying for that tag it may be a while. Absolutely no reason why we can't go to 10-15% nr quota.

This why I don't like putting in for Oregon, first they make you buy the license when you apply with little chance of drawing a tag. My partner put in for an elk muzzle loader tag that has a history of drawing with zero points. He drew tag soup.

I hunted the high dessert elk 2 years ago south of Juntura without any luck. My partner didn't draw the muzzle loader high for that unit. Have a great hunt with your wife!

Put in for point savers for deer and elk. I bow hunt in the Eagles Caps and its over the counter. I decided to hunt blacktail this year so again an over the counter tag. I didnt draw Antelope, Sheep or Goat suprise suprise. I did draw a whitetail doe in Wallowa which is always welcome as they are delicious!

AK Aviator- I think a 80/20 split with the 20 being written as, up to 20%, would be pretty fair. Maybe a little less for the really limited hunts. I do think if they would get rid of the outfitter quota's that it would make the majority of the people much happier. But, then I'm not a fan of any states outfitter allocations. IMO the tags should be available for everyone to have a chance at and then if you want to use an outfitter that's your choice.
You're starting to get pretty close with some of those point totals, you'll be hunting in OR before too long, hopefully.

Good luck to everyone that drew, my family and I failed to draw any of our first choices here in OR, so it looks like a plan b or c year for me. I'll have to say I'm kind of disappointed because 2 of the tags I thought for sure I'd draw (even according to the oregontag site). Oh well, the good thing about OR is that you have quite a few over the counter and second choice opportunities to get out and enjoy hunting and have a decent chance to put some meat in the freezer.

Thanks. We have a range of non-resident drawing allocations up here. Some at 10%, up to some at around 35%. The biggest fuss is over sheep. The non-resident hunters success rates are quite a bit better than residents and a lot of residents are bugged by that. Of course, non-residents have to hire guides, who work hard to have their client's be successful, but they come at a high cost.

There is no "right answer" that's going to keep everyone happy on allocation. Glad it's not up to me!
