Was wondering if anyone had a preference of what time of year they like to hunt? Do you prefer the early Sept hunts mid Sept or the Oct hunts? My self I prefer the mid to late Sept hunts. Weather is a little cooler and more predictable IMO. Oct you always have chance of snow and early Sept it can be hot as can be.

Each time frame has advantages and disadvantages. My favorite for antelope is late September. Lots of rutting action and dominant bucks have well-established herds. The weather is usually reasonable. The disadvantage is that it can be hard to get in on a buck during that time . . . But man it sure is fun to watch. And, he'll make a mistake, eventually.

August archery here. Hot enough that the antelope hit the water holes regularly so you can sit in a blind if you want and have good success. Or you can spot and stalk, my favorite way, and decoy bucks in during that pre rut phase when they are looking for does. Come Sept I am to busy usually chasing elk to think about stink goats. ;)

A lot depends on what else I'm planning. If I am going to hunt elk/deer, which usually don't open for rifle until October, then I'll hunt antelope just before the deer/ antelope seasons. Antelope are pretty easy tags to fill, so I really don't sweat it. I also like to hunt later when it's cooler....speaking of sweat!

For antelope I love any time during the archery season. For rifle I prefer opening day, or the last week of season. Opening day is great if you have time to scout before the season opens. The last week is great because there is rarely another hunter around and the antelope are usually pretty calm by that point.

As with most on here I love to hunt them when ever I can. August and first part of September they have patterns that require water often, and in general I think they taste the best. Late September and in to October they are more visible while herded up and chasing the does. Late season it is easier to take care of the meat as it stays cooler and as said earlier you usually have the place to yourself. As far as time of day I like the low light conditions of early morning and late evening as they seem to be more at ease.

I hunted them the first part of September last year for the first time. Before that it was early to mod October. I really liked it, but the buck I killed still had hair attached to the base of his horns like he was still growing.

The weather did get hot some but it also stormed one day and dipped down pretty cool at night and early mornings. This made for perfect family camping weather. My wife and then 9 month old daughter went on the trip with me. If I went later Oct I doubt I would have brought them for fear of weather.

I prefer mid September for the reasons you mentioned and because when I go in October it messes up my trapping season and bow hunting in Michigan. I have found that by going in September it stretches out the fall and I can get more activities packed into to an already short period of time. Also feels like there are less hunters as most seasons seem to open in October.

I prefer later in the season, when the antelope are bunched up getting ready to migrate. It's easier for me to field judge them when there are several bucks in the same herd to compare. Also the colder weather helps with meat care until you can get him to a cooler.

My favorite is late September. Cool weather but usually no snow yet. During the Utah extended archery hunt too
