I'm a retired business manager. The little place I call home is the family ranch on a half section in N. Idaho. My son is active duty in the Navy. He is a first class petty officer headed for chief probably in about a year. He's only been in for 7 years so, he's doing well in his career. He keeps the FA-18's running and has been on two tours in the Persian Gulf. I'd like to take him on a Wyoming antelope and mule deer hunt in the fall of 2015. I figure it will be a nice way to celebrate his makeing chief..........but, if he doesn't make it on the first try we'll go hunting anyway.
We have always hunted here at home. I've got some nice head mounts (whitetail, mule deer, moose) but, I'd really like to have an antelope. I joined to learn what I can from you veteran antelope and mule deer chasers. Let the education begin.

Welcome to the site. Plenty of people on here to help. Have you researched any areas or have an idea of what region you would prefer to hunt?

Thanks All for the warm welcome. Hoping to find something in Central, South Central or the Southwest corner of the state of Wyoming that has both mule deer and antelope at the same time that we could draw tags for. We've bought points this year for both critters so, the process has begun. Next draw we'll have 1pt each for antelope and deer. We realize it is a process to gain points for the area you want to hunt. The plan is to try to draw a second choice area while gaining points for the area we really want. We've just started the research. Hopefully this will be a multi-year process. I'd like to spend some quality time with the kid, doing an adventure that we both look forward to.

I think your on the right path... With mule deer numbers being down you should be able to get a tag fairly easily. The antelope is a little more challenging but is still doable. I haven't researched the deer areas much as I have a goal area I'm saving points for. I believe though that you could draw a snowy range deer permit and a 45 antelope tag. You will need to find a ranch that will allow trespass but you should have enough time to line up an area. The deer hunting can be done on national forest... the numbers are way down though. I am guessing there are better options out there if you do your research but thought I would offer a possibility. Just an idea for 2nd chance tags while you gain points... Good luck!

Thanks for the idea Hilltop. I'll take a close look at unit 45 for antelope and the snowy range deer permit. I'm not opposed to paying a landowner a reasonable fee for hunting privleges. To me reasonable is maybe $200 bucks if there are a good number of animals on the property. I'll get in touch with Fish and Game to get a list of ranches in the area that allow hunting and get some idea of the price range for hunting fees ranches charge in the area.
