I am the proud owner of an 041-042 late Antelope tag this year! My season is 9/25-10/4. I am trying to gather all the info I can on not just my units but NV antelope hunting in general. I have hunted antelope in WY but I expect this hunt will be a bit different. One of my biggest questions about my units is what areas will get the most hunting pressure or is that really a concern. Its a big area without all that many tags for its size. I would like to hunt an area without many roads where I can walk in farther then most hunters will go. I have blm maps and have a few ideas where to start scouting. When does the rut usually begin and end in NV? Will it be over by my hunt dates? Will antelope be in groups then or will bigger bucks be more likely to be by themselves? What type of terrain should I focus on? I know they can be anywhere but would I be more likely to find bigger bucks in a certain type that time of year? Any advise will be much appreciated! Thanks!!

You should really have a few more posts on the forum before asking so many questions!

If it looks big it is! All you need is a 30-30 and a shovel to kill snakes with. Have fun MM!

I know nothing about Nevada and have only hunted antelope once in my life...don't listen to me! IKIC will get you lined out MM!

I've seen an antelope before and I've been to Nevada, so I'll go ahead and give you some advice. First off, you'll need to make sure you don't loose all of your food money the night before the hunt playing craps. Secondly, make sure you bring your own keystone because none of the rest of your hunting party will bring any. Lastly, when you're field judging bucks with your spotting scope, keep in mind that when the heat shimmer comes off of the desert, it's bending light and all of the bucks will appear 20" bigger than they actually are. So, if you're going to stalk a buck, he needs to look like he's at least 100" through the spotting scope.

I bet that probably didn't help you at all..........

WOW! I'm glad I started buyin points for Nv a couple years ago. 100" antelope are big! I should be able to spot one of those from Oregon!

Hey MM/Keystone/the 6 million post man,

I don't have a ton of info but I have been chukar hunting the Selenite Range the last three years and have spotted a few now and then. I've seen most antelope along the base of the east side of the range, tucked into the various nooks and crannies of the terrain. I have even seen some along the west side of the range between the mountains and highway.

Though I haven't been looking for them, the goats seem to be fairly sparse. Two seasons ago I saw quite a few but this last year I saw almost none. But again, I wasn't looking for them and was concentrating on birds. And also, I've only been driving through a very small section of your unit and have no idea whether there are better spots within the unit.

I don't know how helpful that is, but it's the best I got for ya.

Good luck!!!

Hey MM, I hunted deer in those units, but it's been about 10 yrs ago. I can tell you the little bit I know about them if you PM me. I'll have to dig out my maps to refresh my memory on some of the names. My memories slipping I guess I'm getting old:)

Orrrrrr you can search google earth, call the bio, bring some Coors Banquet and a bottle of Crown, go scouting and the first rancher you meet with lots of alfalfa, hand him the drinkables, introduce yourself as Keystone the Musket Man and you will have a conversation starter to get a access to hunt private ground.
