Zone D14 Deer

Hey guys. Anyone hunting D14 this year? I hunted there last year and saw about 5 doe and a good size bear, all within 100 yards from our camp. No bucks though

I've not hunted D14, have you hunted in the higher elevations? 8,000+

Not quite 8000 feet. We hunted near the 10,000 foot ridge last year. I think the highest we ever got was about 7,000 feet.

Look around the area going from the 15 on 138 going toward Las Flores ranch. Maybe 4 miles max from the 15. Look for one of the dirt roads on the left (north) side. Get up high on one of the hills and glass. There may or may not be some water for them in there. The weekdays are probably better if you want to be alone but having others in there if you are tucked away early might be of benefit to push them around.

Hunted last year, found a spike and a handful of does. I'll be hunting D14 again this year. Working on new areas to try.

I hunted D-14 last year and only saw small bucks, mostly forkies and spikes.

Good looking buck for sure! If I could even take one half that size in D14 I'd be a very happy hunter! Haha

Going out next week!! Can't wait to get boots on the ground and hopefully find some bucks and have better luck than last year. I will be backpacking in this year to hopefully increase the odds a little bit. I will report back on info for anybody else hunting that unit later in the season.

Well I just returned from the trip and sadly, we didn't fill our tags. But it was still an awesome trip! We saw 3 spike bucks and 2 does. And for anyone who hunts D14, they know that even seeing that many deer on one trip was quite lucky! Haha! We had one of the spikes walk within 15 feet of us, right across our faces. Just a curious little guys but it was an awesome encounter.

No dice for me in D14 this last season, no bear and no buck. I'll be getting after D14 again this fall.

my buddy saw two bears and killed one while he was dragging his buck out!!

No not yet, I'm planning to get out and put some some trail cameras out by end of month.

How bad are the fires in the area around the lake?

The fires should make it good hunting. The bigger the better.
