Anyone going to hunt or is hunting in Zone A this year. Archery opened Saturday and Rifle season is going to open in August. I'm tempted to go if I can locate a decent place close by, if not will probly just get a second D14 tag. Hmmm, what to do.....Let see some of those archery bucks if anyone filled their tag(s).

With the success rate so low in D14 , you must have a little secret...
I'd like to get back into whitewater once before I die. That's where I've killed my bigger bucks in D14.

yea, what was it last year, 80 something bucks taken out of 3,000 tags. I wish CA fish and game would shut the zone down for three years, we would have alot better chance at getting a nice one or one at all.

Yea, last year was the worst I've seen in D14. I blame the lack of rain and warm weather we had most of the season. When it rains and the temps drop, we hammer them! Our party runs about 75 to 80 percent success rate every year which is pretty good for this area. We average two to three 4x4s every year. Guess you can say we have some, "Honey holes." I will post some more pictures of the bucks we have taken. We hunt all over the zone high and low.

Bigshot,
Those are Axis deer at the zoo ! A couple at Oak Glen zoo also. I think uncontroled lions take their share too.
I remember haulin butt up the hill after a good hard rain or a snow when I was a kid to either Thomas Hunting grounds or Clark's cattle ranch and the deer would be out everywhere. Especially towards end of season. Back when it was all D11 it didn't end until after thanksgiving...Rut time. Used hunt Santa Ana Canyon area too. Back pack into White water the last 3 days of the season afer a snow (about every 5 yrs. maybe) and catch them migrating down into North Fork or Hell For Sure Canyon and starting to rut. Ahhh, the good old days. Muleys 24/7. I emailed you some pics of old newspaper clippings from early 80's. I;ll post the pics of the D14 racks I told you would. Compare the one from 1981 to mine from 1985. Killed same place too. Offspring maybe.

Yea, The bigger group I use to hunt with alot always gets a couple every year but not no 4x4s, not to many can say that they pull a few 4x4s from D14 every year.

Just wondering has anyone tagged anything, archery, in the northern part of the state yet? It's been a few weeks now right?
My A22 tag doesn't opem till Sept.something. Nice to see something in the Ca. section come alive Muleys ! Have you been avoiding me ? lol !
Just got loaded up ready to go tomorrow morning for my loper hunt in N/E Ca. . 750 mi. 12+ hr drive. I can make it to Evanston Wy. in 12 hrs.. WTF ? LOL ! Send you and bigshot pics if I hammer something respectable. Both of you good luck in D14 and D16. My friend got back today finally from Alaska. He said it was 63 there when he left and is freakin out how hot is is here. I told him today it was cool. 2 days ago it was 105 in Poway. Probably 110 in Winchester where he lives. 63....I wish !

Thanks muleys. Just got to Susanville. 625 dam miles. 12 hrs. Hwy 395 is too slow. I still have to drive up past to Adin/Bieber. It's the "Big Valley" hunt. Just drove thru 70 mi of smoke from some fire, my eyes are wasted, from the pics I sent you see I got my deer scouting done on the way ;) I'll send pic of goat if I get one.

Yeah, I'll have my son drive and I'll stand in back of truck with rifle . Lol ! Just met a guy in Susanville. He hooked me up on where he sees 30 antelope by lake all the time . He drew X4 archery and his wife X4 rifle. Had to pull over . Too hard to type and drive. Pain in ass.

Oh, so your road hunting X12 this year haha.
Muleys,
Checked into a motel in Bieber. The lady who owns it has 13,000 acres and allows hunting on it. She said a couple years ago I guy got a huge loper buck on it and was in the papers . She thinks it was state record at the time or something. Nice lady. Good luck already. I was going to check out a section of BLM the game biologist told me about where he's doing a deer survey. He says he sees lopers on it all the time. I looked on map. Shows a pond. maybe why ? Checkin private first. Should of just PM'ed you. Sorry. No AT&T service here. Was warned before hand. Can get on hotels wireless from outside though.

So, How is the hunting going in the August A zone ? Hot ? Got rain all through the Sierra's and was nice and cool once got out of Bishop. Good luck A Zoner's !
