Youth Elk Hunt in 16E - advice?

My son drew a youth elk hunt in Unit 16E (Oct 8-12) and wondering if anyone has any experience in this unit. I've been blessed with some amazing archery hunts in 16A, but don't have experience in unit 16E. I'm super excited to be able to take my son to the Gila and hope we can put him in position to take a big bull. We have a pack string of horses if packing in would help get to the big boys.

Any advice is welcome.

Access can be a problem if there is recent rains, the two track trails turn to gumbo. Get in and high and stay there untill you tag out. We hunted primarily on Pelona and were into elk every day, glassing early sitting on water tanks mid day. Its a lot of open county but the north sides and the draws hold thicker cover. A huge private ranch(Adobe) on the west side holds elk after the pressure starts I shot one of my bulls coming off this ranch on to public.
