My little boy drew 2b in New Mexico, it's was my third choice for him because it's early and going to be a tough hunt from what my research tells me. He has a tag though and is very excited!
We're not hunting trophies, and I'm not looking for anyones secret spot. This will be his first buck and an average little four-point would be great.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Congrats on the tag, hope he nails one man. Hopefully someone will chime in. You may also try posting in the NM MRS section too. Good luck!

I would recommend almost any where on forest road 314 past the radio towers. Forest road 310 has a lot of hunting pressure on it though if you go past American Mesa and cut back west there are some better places. Manzinaris Mesa/ Ridge Road is another good place. One last place you might want to look is Gobernador I'm not sure if you are familiar with the area so this might all be Greek to you but it's a good start.

Be mindful of the Jicarilla reservation which borders the forest you don't want to have your guns confiscated because of a navigating hiccup

Going down for the first scouting trip in a few weeks and I will definitely look for these places. I greatly appreciate the help, I will have my on x with me and make sure to stay off of the Jicarilla. Thanks again for the help!

Ridge road/ Manzinaris Pass starts about here 36.723527, -107.681643

Forest road 314 starts about here 36.713639, -107.325392

Forest road 310 starts about here 36.745518, -107.221049

Gobernador starts here 36.687755, -107.391541

These are where these roads and locations start from Highway 64.

The Gobernador road can take you all the way to Dulce via Highway 537, 314 can take you to 537 too but not as easily I haven't been that way in a few years. Forest road 310 can take you all the way into Colorado but you need a special Key but if you head west at forest road 309 you can make it back to Highway 527 also known as Sims Mesa Road via Rosa Road and I might add the rosa area is a great place for deer and elk hunting theres a bit of hunting pressure in the rosa area and there's a rancher that can be a bear when it comes to public lands VS private lands especially when there outfitters paying a load of money to hunt on his property. Any way I hope this all helped
