I would like to fish while camping in Yellowstone park and around Cody this October. I will be using a spincaster and would like to know what kind of lures work the best up there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rooster tails, Panther Martin, and Blue Fox are always a good place to start. I also like to use small rapalas with a split shot about 2 feet up the line. The 2" version has produced the best for me but I've caught fish on up to 4" versions. If you can only bring one lure, a yellow body spotted with red PM with a gold spinner is hard to beat IMO.

What about rainbow trout colored rooster tails?
Can't remember ever catching a fish on one? Spinner and tail color seemed to be the variables that really mattered. Have both gold and yellow spinners with a few different tail hair colors. Those smaller lures are relatively cheap so I would bring a few variations in a few different manufacturers. Again, don't forget the Panther Martins... they work in most waters.

Smallest solid black Panther Martin. SOLID black w/black swivel. Sharpie.
Replace treble with #16 wooly bugger.
Small split shot 16" above on 4# test.
Barbless.

That is if,,,,,,you REALLY want to catch one,,,,or a hundred.

If you want "intoxicating" Yellowstone action? Dip in scent.

Most folks use flies, many use spinning. I use both and keep it light and did quite well.

1/16oz brass pounded Phoebe works well too. Although I like to black out most of the lure as those fish have seen it all.
Scents cover up the sharpie.
