Well, I wont be bow hunting muleys this year. Drew a archery elk tag for the Bighorns (which just happen to be at my back door). 38 type 9. With all the moisture we have been getting, there are gonna be some stud bulls again this year. Two years ago I spent a fair bit of my season after a 365-370ish bruiser. Had him at 22 yrds at one point. Never got a good shot. I have nightmare ever since. Now its my time.lol. Did anyone else get lucky and draw a tag?

I'm a MT resident, so yes, I have a tag. I will have to wait for the draw to see just how good it is. Either way, it is a good year. I have already seen a couple of bruisers in my OTC area. It is looking like a great antler year.

Congrats Elkcrazedfrk! I will be chasing bulls in the OTC areas in my home state, as I am on a waiting period for limited entry. It's all fun as long as I'm out chasing bugling bulls. Hope you kill a toad, and you better post pictures.

Drew an Area 22 tag myself. Will be headed up with a buddy Saturday to see what we can see. Trying to get the digiscoping thing figured out. Borrowed the old man's Swaro scope to give it a go. I'll post some pics if I can figure out what I'm doing. I'm pretty excited just to get out from behind the desk and get in between some trees for a day.

So, my buddy and I made our scouting trip Saturday. This link shows the pictures I was able to take: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...9&l=47971b0290
Got up at 2:30 in the AM to be out at our area early enough to glass in the morning. Was scared we still got in too late for the morning glassing but spotted 5 bulls right out of the truck. Ended up seeing 22 different bulls that day. Hiked 8 miles and gained over 3000' of elevation throughout the day. Saw this batchelor group of 9 bulls bedding and feeding. Watched them for about 3 hours. Ended up seeing 2 bulls that were pushing 300". Never saw any monsters, but I'm wondering how much they'll still have to grow by the time they start rubbing the velvet off? Got off the mountain and was back home at 11 that night. Fast, fun day. Can't wait for September.

Sounds like my kind of day 307wapiti, cant say ive had a scouting trip like that in Idaho yet, but I remember days similar to yours when I lived in Utah. Hopefully after 2011 wolf season, idaho may get back a few more wapiti numbers...

Thanks Bitteroot. I was reading that an elks antlers can grow anywhere from 1/2" to 1-1/2" A DAY depending on the feed. Been pretty excited about that as this has been the wettest year I've ever seen living in Wyoming. Should make for some pretty good grazing.

Yeah Hoochiemama, it was certainly a good time. That's probably the earliest I've ever woke up to go do anything in my life. Earlier than the hunting itself even! Worth it though to see that many elk.

Jen, I drew an Area 22 tag which is the Ferris Mountains just East of Muddy Gap Junction. It's historically a 10% odds tag and I must be livin' right cuz I drew it in back to back years. Hopefully I'll have some pictures of a big bull down come the end of September to share.

Great pics Wapiti..Your right, the abundance of moisture is making for some stellar antler growth. If there was a year to get a 370+ bull this is it. Only problem is I dont know if I could pass a 360...lol. Its gonna be a special year for sure!

307Wapiti- That's way awesome! I antelope hunt basically at the base of the Ferris Mountains. I've heard there are some pretty good bulls there. Cant wait to see pictures!!

And I agree, this year is going to be a great one to have an elk tag in Wyoming.

Elkcrazedfrk- You go ahead and take the 360.. I'll take the 370+.. I already passed on a 360 once in 38.. oops.
