Hey guys, I?m wanting to take my 2 teenage sons on an Elk Hunt in Wyoming in 2019. This year they have 2 points and this will be oldest sons last year being a youth..I?m looking for any info or recommendations for a general area that will provide the best opportunity at an elk..doesn?t matter if it?s a cow or bull..we?ve only hunted elk one time in another state and wasn?t successful..thanks for any advice! I?ve got gohunt..and have looked at units all over the state..

Might want to take a look at some of the units with higher allotments of the type 4 tags that also contain accessible public lands.

To me personally, as a nonres on a tight budget, the type 4 tags are in a sense mildly annoying: they're full priced cow tags-but if you do your homework researching the units that have those type 4 tags in abundance and speak to the biologists about those areas, the success rates are higher and hunter effort lower.

But, like many have pointed out, the stats are often flawed: on the other hand, a guy has to work with the limited data he has in his hands, to plan tag applications.

Oh, in full disclosure: I have only hunted elk twice in WY and was party to a kill only once (I spotted 2 bulls and my partner killed one of them, I just had a deer tag on that trip), I have yet to kill one. [emoji38]

Thanks Prerylyon for your suggestions! Yeah the type 4 tags are really high..I'm almost thinking now it would be better to put in for a type 6 tag.
