There is a tab on the Wyoming G&F site that is called hunter assistance I believe and it's a list of land owners that allow hunting, and typically if they allow deer it's whitetails. You have to contact them ahead of time by phone, but some of them have some pretty good hunting and some will charge a small trespass fee.

yep, you can also call the G&F for a longer list to be emailed to you, or the chamber of commerce in Buffalo and Sheridan have landowner lists also. Probably the best bet for whitetails I would guess.

Thanks, still trying to figure this thing out as I get time. Want to thank all who have commented for your help. I see they changed the deadline to May 31 for applications. is it worth paying the extra to get a better at a chance for a draw in region Y. I am from western Pa and a steelers fan also.

Really depends on how bad you want the tag. If I read the reports right, last year 0 preference points drew over 81%, then in the random draw odds were just under 64%. Your odds with 0 points in the regular draw are something around 93% considering both chances, points and random draws. If you pay for a special tag, and demand is at all close to last year, you have the tag. If not drawing is a huge deal, pay special prices, otherwise pay regular prices and in all likely hood get the tag.

That's my 2 cents, but I am no expert on all the exact ins and outs of the draws, so hopefully some of the members who know this stuff better than I do can validate or correct me.

This should work, has a video on how to as well. I bet there are paper options too. Good news is you have plenty of time.

looked it up, thanks, I think I found what I need. I think we can apply for a region general license by putting the region letter in the hunt area and leave the type blank. would our odds be better if we specified a hunt area and type instead of just a region?

Can someone comment on how to apply for a WY Gen license? I believe you do not use a unit number for a gen license. But it has been 7 years since I applied for a WY Gen license. Let's hope another member can comment. If not, I'll dig it up for you.

Best bet is to stop asking detailed questions in the new member intro section, and just stick with asking questions in the thread you started about whitetail, under general hunting I think. No problem asking here, but many more members will see it there. I'll watch, and if no one clarifies your draw question, I'll find it in a day or so for you.

No paper applications anymore, you have to apply online at the G&F website. It's easier.

Each hunt has it's own odds, both the ones listed by unit number and the general region tags by letter. So odds all depend on which one you are going after. The odds are on the web site, draw demand index I think they call it. The on line app system is easy to use, as other have stated. So at some point we all put our choice down, unit number or general area letter, and await the news.
