SE Wyoming
Thought I'd start a little thread for those traveling out to hunt Wyoming.
SE Wyoming has a significant cool front coming in: lows in lower 40' s for lower elevations with highs mid 70's, mountains can expect lows in the upper 30's for the next 2 weeks highs in 60's next week.
Good chance of some moisture this coming weekend also. Maybe a dusting up high.
It will be quite cool at night for the next 2 weeks, yahoo!!

No significant fires in the Snowies.

I started watching the weather in NE WY - 10-day forecast is showing a little cooling. I leave in 22 days - counting down...

Still a month before I head out there. I'm praying for some good cool weather. Hopefully the only blizzards will be from DQ.

It was fargin hot in the mountains this past weekend. Borderline irresponsible if you killed something more than a few hundred yards from the truck. I was just scouting but man was it warm!

Hot and lots of smoke in western WY. Sheep and deer hunters could have some trouble glassing long distances.

Will be hunting Pinedale area starting the 20th. Looks like rain the first couple days at least. According to NOAA,m the temps are dropping into the 20s at night as well.

What will this do to the Elk? Will they be hiding in the trees or will they be more active?

Cool and wet weather tends to get the elk in the open more than dry warm weather. You should notice more daytime rutting activity.

Even elk hunting in "dry" weather, you should have waterproof boots. Just the wet grass from dew in the mornings will soak a pair of boots. You can use a waterproofing agent on normal leather boots- works great.

I have also found gaiters to be of great help when walking through wet grass. At least they will keep your pants legs dry below the knees along with keeping the water from wicking down into your boots through your socks.

This could be a banner year for general and migration elk if this weather continues.

Agreed.. but also a bad thing around here if it happens again like last year.. to many young bulls get hammered in one specific area where over 1000 elk were late last fall and it was easy hunting.. Will be bad for the future...but, my October migration hunt plans could be one hell of a hunt if the weather gets those big deep Yellowstone bulls close to the border by mid October!
