I know that there is no clear answer to this question, but what is the weather typically like in NE Wyoming at the beginning of October? It looks like average temps are 50-60 for highs and 30-40. Also, how about cell reception? Is there much coverage out there?

That would be about average unless you are at high elevations. The weather can be crazy from day to day, so cover the whole gamut with your clothes and boots. Worland is calling for lows around 30 for a couple nights this week already followed by a day or two in the mid 80s and a low in the 70s!
As far as cell service, if you can get high it isn't too bad in most areas, but it can be spotty. I use Verizon and it's about as good as any service out there, especially if you can get up out of low spots.

Not their fault as I just bought it from them. They didn't make the map program and I wonder how the mistake was made. I do know that the deer herd way south of there in their management plan is referred to as the Upper Powder River herd right in a book I bought from the G&F years ago. A lot of people probably don't know it, but the Powder River and the BigHorn River that is west of the mountains over by Worland are two of the only rivers in the country that flow north and both go up into Montana.
Not that rare.
The San Pedro flows North from Mexico to Phoenix, AZ. To be fair though it starts in Arizona, flowing South, makes a U Turn, and then flows north.

So TG you seem to be pretty experienced with the west. What type of hunts have you done and what was/is your favorite game? Do you have anything lined up this year?

I kinda figured that was going to be the answer on the weather. Good to hear there is at least some cell service out there. I've got verizon and sprint so hopefully one of the two has service.

I would say that would be average weather there but anything can happen, like last year... If you get ontop of a hill you should have cell service, you will even have some along the river.

The Mississippi flowed North after the Reelfoot earthquake of 1812...I hope the Powder River doesnt change direction due to Yellowstone while you are out there! Haha

2 years ago, it snowed a few inches outside of Gillette and the next day it was in the 70's...I would say that is typical early October WY weather.

You never know what to expect from day to day. Right now the BigHorns where I'm headed tomorrow night on down to the lower elevations of Buffalo and Sheridan on the east side are under a major storm warning with a lot of wet, heavy snow forecast that may bring down tree limbs and power lines because the trees haven't lost their leaves yet. WYDOT is telling people to only travel in an emergency and if you do go out to have survival gear with you. I hope our member from MT that I'm to help on his elk hunt next week is okay out there. He got there several days ago and is in a 10x10 wall tent at an elevation of about 8,000'. I'm hoping he got the forecast on his radio and bailed out down to TenSleep to a motel for a couple days, as I've had no word from him on his cell phone since he started hunting. I'm not sure what the highs will be in the mountains next week, but they are calling for high 70s into the mid 80s at the lower elevations. This big storm has hit 3 weeks earlier than the weird early one that hit last year, so I guess we'll have to blame them on Al Gore and global warming!

Yep, it should melt quite a bit, but I'm worried about being able to get around on the back roads in the hunt area up there. I'm hoping there is a lot less than 13" over in elk unit 45 and the WYDOT camera on their website that is near Deer Haven Lodge appears to show just a few inches and the highway is clear.

It shouldn't push the animals out of the high country this early, especially the elk and moose. The 10 day forecast for the basin on toward Cody is back into the high 70s to mid 80s, so it should be fairly warm up high and melt a lot of it within a few days. The roads in the NF may not be passable without a quad though, but the guy I'm going out to help until the 22nd has one. I'd bet he's not having much fun right now in that 10x10 tent he is camping in though!

Its pretty well melted here, but its a muddy mess and the frost killed my poor little garden. I tried to cover it, but only managed to save a couple tomato plants. dang it.
