70 views and no thoughts? Anybody?
Hi Bob,
Glad to see another Missouri boy on here. I just moved to WA this year, but have lived there most of my life. To bad the Tigers lost to KU today, what a heartbreaker.
To be honest, I read your post and don't think I can help you out. There are hardly any units you can draw 2nd choice that aren't mostly private ground, and third choice... well the list is a LOT shorter. I imagine most everyone here has the same problem.
Ten years ago I could have helped you out... things have changed in the way tas are drawn now. When I was guiding on the east side of the state we could get leftover tags in unit 13, that unit doesn't exist any more (which is funny because it wasn't a very good unit, now it is called unit 11 I believe, I doubt changing the name changes the hunt.) At any rate, with 0 points you would only have about a 55% chance of drawing the tag. I checked resident drawing odds to see the likely hood there would be any tags left over after the resident draw, and last year there where 153 resident applicants for 151 tags, so MAYBE there would be a tag or two left over there (if less residents applied or more tags were issued), but I wouldn't count on it. It is mostly private but alwasy seemed like you could find somewhere to hunt for a reasonable trespass fee. The problem is it was not very good (low numbers and pretty bad quality)
Fear not Bob, depending on the first choice unit you selected (assuming it was a resonable unit and not the Red Dessert or something), you are hunting antelope this year with 2 points. I assume you have looked here for last years draw odds:

If you are interested, and want to shoot me a PM, I could give you a couple ideas of units that would get you hunting this year, DIY on public ground. One "Show Me" boy to another...
Hope you have a great hunt this year.
