Heading out to hunt Muleys in Region R this fall during the General season. Particularly Unit 47 but could venture outside of 47 if warranted. Never been anywhere near that area of Wyoming before. Any insight or tips anyone has for me would be greatly appreciated. Coming out a little early to scout and was wondering if there's any fishing activity also. Mainly interested in the area between Shell and Hyattville. Will be camping with a small trailer. Thanks in advance of any information you could give. Respectfully, B. Nilssen

I am feeling a little like a broken record today, but not being a real good hunter all I got is some places I have fished over there. Shell creek and paint rock lakes were some of my favorites. shell reservoir and Adelaide I remember being pretty good too. The mountain creeks In between and not out of those lakes I didn't really try much for some reason. It's a good wide gravel road all the way in to paint rock lakes I think. Shell res and Adelaide not as good a road I think.

Yeah not a purist here. I do avoid worms for trout because they seem to take them pretty deep and are harder to release for me. I have had luck with spinners there. Just regular old mepps and panther martins worked for me sometimes. Also hoppers, both pattern and ones you catch and put them on a hook and bubble type fishing have worked for me there. Probably same as Wisconsin I am guessing. Haven't tried a bee pattern yet, but its on my shopping list. One time my brother was being a little ornery so he "fell " into Shell Creek and came out with a fish in his pocket. So you can use your pants, but that might be considered netting depending on the material. The smaller streams like the inlets and outlets to the lakes, fly fishing seemed to be better. Small hooks, lots of fish, type deal. Beaver ponds on those streams can be a lot of fun. A lot of my "fishing" is napping, chasing grasshoppers with a rock, or cloud gazing, so the local fly shop is probably better for matching the hatch when you get there I guess.

Thanks Againstthewind ... I'm more of a spinning guy. Just looking for some variety when I'm out in WY scouting for Mule deer. If I tried fly fishing I might hurt someone, particularly myself. I'll get ahold of some regulations and pack the spinning rod. If unsuccessful I may try some of that 'pocket fishing', we'll see ;) Take care and thanks for the response...
