Well I don't do this often on this site but I need a little bit of help with Region G. I have 3 points for Wyoming and I am looking at burning them this year. I will start off hunting 143, 144, or 145. I hunt the high country early here in Colorado so this hunt will suit me. If I am not successful I will hunt unit 135 in October. I am not looking for a GPS cordinance, most of you know me a little bit by now. I have top notch back packing gear and am in great shape. I do a lot of back pack hunts here in Colorado. I will be doing this hunt as a back pack hunt and I am not afraid to get 4 or 5 miles into the high country. I am just looking for your opinion on the best of the 3 units out of 143-145. Any advice on trail heads to look at for scouting and general areas would be much appreciated. I was also wondering if these units have grizzly bears. Thanks in advance for the help. I am not looking at any sort of outfitting deal.

I checked the draw odds from 13 and maybe I won't draw this year. 3 points gave you a 50% chance to draw in 13 and if they cut tags anymore or more people put in for it that will make my chance go down. It sucks that Colorado and Wyoming release their draw results around the same time. It makes it hard to plan between the 2 states unless you know you have a 100% chance of drawing.

I'm not sure if it is worth the 200 to draw it one year early. Although it is really only an extra 165 because I will have to buy another point if I don't do the special draw.

50% is pretty decent odds but hard to say what will happen this coming year. Guess it depends how set you are on drawing it this year as to which draw you enter. The special draw is to much money for me personally.

I wouldn't burn 3 points on a gen season tag but that's just me

*** I'd have to disagree with that! If he waits a year and only buys a PP that is $40. There is a bill being taken to the legislature calling for a 10% across the board increase in all resident and NR fees that, if passed, will take effect in 2015. That would add another $30+ to the regular license fee and he still wouldn't be guaranteed to draw. I'd put in for the special tag and do the hunt this year. If he puts in his time and hunts like he is capable of the Region will give him as good or better chance at a big buck than any LE tag in the state that takes a lot more PPs. Many LE deer units are way overrated now.

Even though it is a general tag with a lot of pressure the genetics are there. Region G has the potential to produce big bucks. I am going to go ahead and put in for the special tag. I am off from the 12th - 27th of September as well as the 3rd - 5th of October. Granted I will be hunting deer here in Colorado with a smoke pole the first 8 days of my time off that still gives me 11 total days to hunt a buck in Region G. I am also going to get in two scouting trips into Region G consisting of 5 days each. I will do one scouting trip in August and one the first weekend in September. I ma pretty lucky to have a good amount of vacation time and long weekends at my job due to my schedule.

Have you decided where in G you are planning to hunt?

I haven't narrowed down an area yet. I have talked to some different guys on here and Rokslide. I am planning on callingthe warden and biologists in the area and picking their brains as well. Any past experience would be helpful. I iwll pick 2 different areas to scout this summer.

I think there are some grizzlies in the more northern half of g, at least rumors of them, the more south you get the less those odds are.
