Hey everyone. I was excited to see that I drew region G deer for Wyoming. I had 8 points and did a group app with 2 others 2 make 5.5 points. One of the guys hunts here often and knows the area well. So I dont need spots, just generals like what to expect, bears, fishing, water sources since we are packing in, crowds and anything anyone will share.
Good luck to the others that drew.

That will have a lot to do with where in G you are packing in. It's a huge area. I plan to hunt G in a couple years and I would suspect the closer you get to Yellowstone the higher your probability to run into a bear. It's a general area, that is peaking, so expect to see people. There are guys on here that know the area FAR better than I.

Best of luck to you. Unfortunately I don't have any firsthand info for that area either. If I don't draw my WY elk tag next year though, I'm going to G for sure.

Plenty of black bears in region G..just because they don't have a hump doesn't mean they aren't a problem when it comes to your camp. ..otherwise, fishing, water etc...is all gonna depend on where in G you go.. there is plenty of water all throughout the range

Thanks for the responses. I am getting very excited about this hunt. I think we are close to Star Valley where we are heading up. I ll have to get more details. But with all the talk this year, I am very very excited. We plan on going in on the archery opener for 1 week, then the Rifle opener for 1 week, at least for now thats the plan.
Bears are what makes me nervous. I hope they stay away. I guess some bear spray and a little 357 might help.
Thanks guys!!!

Congrats on drawing the tag! I drew it as well and can't wait to get there and start checking things out. I only live about three hours from the region so I'll be able to scout it more then any other out of state hunt I've been on. I plan on making 5-6 weekend trips between now and the archery opener and three of those will be 3-4 day weekends. Looking forward to wearing out some boots and looking through glass all day.... The question I have I was wondering about is the 4th of July weekend too early to get up there and backpack? I've had a couple guy tell me don't worry about it until the end of July or August but I don't think I can wait. The bucks I've been looking at around home look GREAT and I imagine the wyo bucks do too. What're your guys' thoughts on hitting the high country now?

I was up in July last year and there was still some snow. Not too much but I did have to go around some. There'll be water that won't be there come hunting season for sure.

My family that hunts/outfits up there can usually get in to our camps by late June/early July. There will be snow in some areas year round, but you should still be able to get up in the high country and travel around without too much trouble (especially after the mild winter).
I'll be hunting Region G as well. Has anyone seen/heard any (reputable) Deer or Big Game forecasts in general for Wyoming?

Perfect, not too worried about getting around some snow. I figured the deer will follow it up. Not too sure about a reputable deer forecast, all I've heard is "hype". Maybe you can talk one of the Eastman's into chiming in on that one.

The snow thing in June is more of a problem for guys with horses. You can take the horses up high but there won't be any feed for them yet so it can be hard to find a place to camp. If there's no feed up high for horses that also means no feed for elk and deer as well and they'll be lower than they'll be come September. IMO scouting in June is kind of a waste of effort as the bigger bucks you find in June will likely not be there later. I'd wait until July before going up high. I wouldn't get too stressed about the bears in the Greys. Most of the bear problems are farther north but there are a few grizzlies lurking around so just be bear aware. Smith and Wesson makes some good bear spray.

Hunted for many years in G in the 1990s. Not just black bear in there anymore though. Griz and wolves are in there now. Cats too. There are some nice bucks in there though!!!
