My thoughts as well. Sad story. That area is polluted with bears.Sad deal for sure! Hate to question anyone in that situation but Got to wonder about the client leaving the guide alone with the bear then leaving town so soon.
Sadly, when I read that a red flag flew up in my head too. No one knows how one will react in a situation like that.I hope I never have to find out.Sad deal for sure! Hate to question anyone in that situation but Got to wonder about the client leaving the guide alone with the bear then leaving town so soon.
Yes. This fella from Florida needs to explain his side of this as something does not sound right about this IMO. Why else would he high tail it out of Wyoming like that.Sad deal for sure! Hate to question anyone in that situation but Got to wonder about the client leaving the guide alone with the bear then leaving town so soon.
Thanks for the perspective from North Carolina. If I had been mauled by a grizzly in Wyoming and released from the hospital, my guide was dead and the elk lost, why in the world would I hang around? You can bet my family would want to see m ASAP and if I had given my statement to the authorities, I would be on the next flight home too.
Now, I do hate that the client wasn't capable of dispatching that attacking grizzly and threw the gun to the guide and ran. Obviously, the best thing would be for him to put a lethal shot in the grizzly with the pistol himself.
But you and I weren't there to see how it went down. Of course "if we had been there, we would have done it differently." And maybe some of us would.
But, a pistol is not the ideal weapon for that situation, better a shotgun with buckshot. And being mauled by a grizzly is just about the most terrifying thing in the world. He had just had hundreds of pounds of angry grizzly on him and taking his leg in his mouth.
I don't know if he thought the guide had a better chance with the gun than he did, whether panic set in, whether he thought that without the gun there was nothing to do but run, or what happened, but I'm not going to speculate from the comfort of my easy chair.
Maybe we'll find out, maybe we won't. It's a bad deal and terrible for Uptain's family. Dreams about their dad's last moments are going to haunt them for a long time.
OK, that's a good point I didn't think of, but don't give me snobbish crap about what state either of us lives in. People are not better, more respectful or more thoughtful in Wyoming than North Carolina. Thanks for the perspective from North Carolina.
From Wyoming I think the family of the victim probably deserve an explanation from this fella as to what happened. I personally would have felt an obligation to meet with them before leaving if I was the last person to see their dad/husband alive, but that's just me. I would also be present at the guides funeral, but again, that's just me.
