Not to change the subject but they tried doing that here in Colorado also. They tried using property records and utility receipts but it don't work. Colorado goes by drivers licenses mostly there are a couple of others but I can't tell you off of the top of my head. If you have a out of state DL then you are a non resident, they don't care how much property you have or where you pay your utility bills. Are you sure that Montana isn't the same way? I know that Utah, and Arizona, and Wyoming are that way when you set up your sportsman's ID.One of the things that I've seen around here is people coming from out of state, buying a hunting cabin on a small plot of land, and then claim residency to get a resident tag for their 4 wheeler. At least they are buying the tag, even if they are cheating the system in order to get the cheaper price.
Claiming residency to get hunting/fishing licenses and related stamps and ORV stickers gets you into very EXPENSIVE problems with the State & G&F.Not to change the subject but they tried doing that here in Colorado also. If you do find a way around the system and get caught you are in for a bunch of problems.
That case is really interesting. They really threw the book at him for some reason. Here is a story about a outfitter out of Arizona who tried to pull the wool over Utah DOW's eyes.
