Wyoming Mule deer draw ?

I need a little help in understanding the draw for mule deer. I have spent a lot of time on the States web site. I see there are units and regions. Do you apply for a unit or a region? What is the advantage of a unit tag vs a region tag. I have looked at the draw results and can not figure it out. Looks like a lot more region tags are issued. I have been building points and thinking about entering the draw next year. I have a total of 3 deer points and 5 antelope. I will most likely only get to take this one trip in my life time. I know the advice is to do one at a time, but I would take a full week or two if needed.
I have read a lot of the post but see no information. I am also in the process of making some contacts for information. I have been a hunter education instructor for 22 years and the lady over Wyoming Hunter Education is going to direct me to some names of people that could help me understand areas I might look to hunt.

Basically, look at the map. It is broken down into regions. On that map, it tells you what units are included in that region in black text. In red text are units that are a unit only tag.

For example in Region E. Units 34,87,89,90,157, and 170 are limited quota units. If you draw one of these tags you can only hunt in that specific unit. If you draw a region E tag, you can hunt all of the units in black text. Hope this helps, good luck!

What is the public access land on a general region D tag like? Any mule deer in the 70, 66 area. I looked at the success rate, but that includes private land. I would be pleased with a legal buck, or just getting to see some animals. I was thinking there are decent antelope numbers in the area.

The Eastman's MRS (members research section) gives a rating on public access for the different hunting units. Look for areas with lots of BLM land or National Forest land, if you are planning on doing a public land, DIY hunt. If you are planning on doing a guided hunt, then public land is less important.

With 3 deer points, you are sort of 'in between'. The demand for limited entry deer units, and even some general deer units, has made drawing a deer tag much more difficult for non resident hunters.

Go to the WY web site and they have drawing results and you can determine how many preference points it has taken to draw a specific tag.

One word of caution: don't site around waiting to build up enough points to draw that 'magic tag'. For the most part, they do not exist. A deer tag that will cost you 6 points is not necessarily any better than a tag that you can draw with 3 or less points. If you truly will only get to do this one time, you may want to consider a guided hunt, or have a local experienced hunter help you out. You may also be able to find some private land that may let you pay a trespass fee to hunt their land.
