Does any one have any advice for this unit. We have 16 days left to fill a tag and we are having a difficult time finding a goat. With all of the snow yesterday it is very difficult spotting them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I had this tag last year (and helped a buddy the year before) and am from the area. Dealt with a lot of snow last year as well which does complicate things. Feel free to send me an email - [email protected] and I can provide you with ideas of where to find a goat now.
Last October we visited Yellowstone Park and saw a lot of goats in the Lamar Valley at the extreme NE corner of the park. Yes they were in the park, but with that many goats around I would think there would be some just outside the park as well.
We laid the smack down on a decent goat yesterday. Roughly a 9 inch goat and 6 years old. Beautiful thick coat too. When i have the energy I will post the story. We were a mile from the truck and he shot it at 830 am 280 yards away. We made it back to the truck at 11pm. I am exhausted.
Yes. Unfortunately he did not hit him where he needed too. Long story short i turned around and saw the goat 280 yards away and he saw me. He could not find a level place to get a steady rest and shot him free handed. He missed the first two times and the third shot he dropped like a sack of tators. luckily the entrance hole was small and the exit was behind the ear and about the size of a nickel. Thank god for a controlled expansion pill. Thank god he did not roll down the hill. We were a mile from the truck 280 yard shot and it took me 4 hours to get to him. He shot him at 830am and i hit the trail head at 11pm.
