Hello, I'm new to the forum. I'm trying to find a map on the g&f website that shows the general elk areas, but can't seem to find it, can anyone help? Also I've only hunted antelope in wy, this is my first yr trying to draw an elk tag there. Would anyone be willing to give me a jumping off point for a unit to look into? There a lot of the areas in wy that are designated as general .just go to the gf website and look at the description of the areas. Also remember that non res. Cannot hunt wilderness areas. Anywhere within 100 miles of Yellowstone probably has wolves and grizz .The weather can be a challenge as well rain sleet snow and wind you might see all these in the same day all that said it is my favorite state to hunt. Look for good public access when choosing an area. Buy a Wyoming gazateer it is 20 bucks well spent. I would try to give you some advice on which area but I haven't had much luck lately in the areas I hunt. Good luck!

Musket man, I know, no offense taken. It's kind of a long story. Buddy told me to put in for a gen tag and he had this ranch in eastern wy locked down to hunt.. Well he doesn't so now I'm scrambling to gather all the info I can. It may be a trial by fire elk season for me up there

Thats understandable and why I dont let my friends plan hunts for me anymore. lol. Dont worry elk season is a ways off yet and there are plenty of general units you can hunt. Look for units with decent public access and not to many wolves or grizzlys and you should have a good hunt. Where are you from?

print out the map, then look at the seasons page and the GEN units will be listed.

I'm from Colorado.. By way of Arizona. Miss my home state but moving to co has opened a lot of doors to be able to hunt other states. I love Wyoming. Reminds me a lot of back home. Very hunter friendly! Yeah I'm not to keen on the grizz. Never seen one, not sure I really want to.. Well maybe from a distance. Yes I just found on the g&f site how to get the general areas. Now I can hunt any/ all of them with that tag? If this is the case wow.. A little overwhelming

You can hunt any gen unit with a gen tag. Different units have different season dates. restrictions, ect. so be sure to look up the regs on the specific units you are interested in.

Dont think I could afford the special anytime! lol. Odds not real good for drawing it with 0 points so you might have some time to plan your hunt.

You'll have to go through it and see which ones are general and which ones are limited quota. Also are you a Eastman's subscriber? They have a list of all the general units in the MRS.

***That date of the 28th is the latest that they would post the results. The ticker on the home page of the G&F website came on Friday afternoon saying the results would be posted tomorrow AM.

Guessing you didn't draw... Buy your preference point this summer and you will have you tag in 2015. I used to hunt the battle creek drainage south of Rawlins. General tag area and saw elk every day, every year I hunted it. Smaller bulls and tough country but there was elk and it was free. Bring your frame pack and pack a lunch... good luck
